At the same time, India has its own concerns about receiving “second best” offers from the USA, and is looking for evidence that Washington intends to treat the nation as a full defense partner in the wake of their recent 10-year defense pact. India’s new foreign procurement rules are likely to make this hurdle even more challenging.

I thing GoI is doing right things, like inviting MRCA contract & this C&C contract. If US wants to sell defence goods to us, then they should be prepared to give competetive offers & not second grade treatments which it provides to its allies. GoI knows this & seems to be playing this game of putting US against europeans against israelis in well thought out manner. Just like rejection of P-3c shows, we are not prepared to take things which arent to our benefit. Do think that fate of F/A 18 E/F will be similar if it too doesnt satify demands made, like that of ToT etc.

I told you, money is once again the answer. In the West it costs you about $100mlln or more to dismantle a ship of Asbestos alone, then you still have to add the price of the scrapping itself.
If you send it to a cheap yard in India, without really mentioning all the dangers, you get it scrapped much much cheaper.
The high price of asbestos removal is caused by the use of special equipment and risk fees you have to pay to those workers. In India, they simply don’t have such equipment or protection. If one of the workers dies, than they consider that the risk of the job.

The ship was bought for Rs 40cr, it comes to around 8-10M USD. Human life is so cheap here.

Mate If they have one lucky moment we might even loose our precious Carrier Fleet.

As far as Pak having P-3C , yes they do and its part of the cat and mouse game you play , Just because PN has P-3C it wont stop IN from getting close and firing their Klub , There are tactics on how to deal with potential ASW asset.

Just as IN has the Tu-142 it wont stop the PN Agosta90B from hunting our CBG

You have to take your chances if you want to strike gold.

Its not about merely about how good your asset is , its about tactics and strategy to deal with it.

U should understand that PN has only 2 installations to protect, ie karachi & gwadar from IN. For this very purpose they have 8 freebies given last year plus earlier stock of P-3c are their. PN being defensive force wont venture out more than 50 or 100 n.miles from its coast. So for launching the klub or even the newer french missilles, IN subs have to venture into risk areas, which is what they may be trying to find an solution. For that IN will need larger range missile, either brahmos or other.

IN uses Kilo for Land Attack Task , why do you think they have armed it with Klub , A sub can just be 50 Km away from coast , take its own sweet time lie down , look for the right moment fire the missile and come back . The enemy will have little clue about it.

And PN wont use their freebies given by unkil sam ie P-3c to detect subs? This is the reason why IN subs needs long range missilles for land attack or even sea targets.

They are fairly large economies.. The official exchange rate gross domestic product of the mentioned countries is following:

Israel $123.7 billion – military expenditures $9.11 billion in 2005
Italy $1.733 trillion – military expenditures $28.18 billion in 2005
China $1.833 trillion – military expenditures $67.49 billion in 2005

See my point? No way, I repeat, no way you have managed to catch up just like that. Brains are not everything even if they are of vital importance.. No money, no funny, brother.. No funds, no research.. BTW, let me remind you that none, I repeat none of those countries has, for instance, their own AESA developed yet. Except Israel..

Give credit where its deserved. American companies arent charitable trust.

1000 T/R modules is the same as the APG-80 – it’s about all that can be fitted in the nose of an F-16. It’s also the number Ericsson say NORA will have, to fit in a plane about the same size as an LCA. How big an antenna can be fitted into the nose of an L(ight)CA?

The APG-68(v)9 blurb mentions benefits achieved by the use of COTS components. Hmm. Reminds me of something – oh yes! The Vixen 500E brochure.

I wouldn’t dismiss it as “small n cheap” without more information. It might have lower performance than the APG-68(v)9 – though that has a mechanically-scanned array – or the EL/M-2052, or APG-80, but neither you nor I actually knows that.

AESA arent cheap. So what u spend on those should be much better than conventional radars & shouldnt be compromised wrt to ur arch rivals. If it does satisfy in performance & cost aspect IAF would like to get the it. But the problem with brits are, they are costly & wont let ToT, either of which wont be much problem for israeli or russians.

The increased, dry thrust should allow the aircraft (LCA Tejas) to super cruise (cruise supersonically without the use of reheat).

How much thrust will kaveri require to propel LCA into supercruise?

He said the government approval for the ‘Astra’ programme had come a year ago and efforts were on to develop a BVR missile capable of engaging targets 80 KMs away

Another interesting info in the article. Are they looking @ developing shorter & longer range ones?

But the rumours of the 1000+km range brahmos is going on since its induction.

    Easy Guys! Easy!!!

I mean do you Guys want for your “intended audience” to return
the “name calling, fun-poking, and the stone throwing” favor? I don’t think so.
Because name calling and all of the above is a two way street.

Facts: If push comes to shove I’m sure your audience can be just
as mean, as dirty, and there’ll be a full fledge war of stone throwing happening
here in AFM… just a scenario only of course because I’m sure your audiance isn’t as
    insensitive
. Insensitivity is reserved strictly for the well educated :p …

Rude manners, violence, and mean tactics does not a Starfighter
or a Flanker make – cool heads, an open and enquiring mind, a commitment to
success, and disciplines – not irrational behaviors – somehow are.

    Just a thought…

    .

R u official firefighter of AFM forum or do we say as GJ likes Oracle forum?

“name calling, fun-poking, and the stone throwing” favor
Huh! Have u bothered to read from start or just bumped in. If u have read all the posts, then it should remind u who is the culprit.

That might be India as the “savior” with so much wealth and so many “toys” in its shopping list. By the way the “filthy wealth” from those Gulf countries comes from oil and it is needed to fill the tanks of all planes even the one flying with the Indian Air Force!!!!

Indians as a saviours for frenchies, no way 😉 . Eventhough i too like rafales, but the current price is about 144M USD, & that too w/o AESA, higher thrust engine, new gen weapons & avionics & what not, its simply out of Q. How many yrs will it take & at what cost? So whoever buys them best of luck, as they will be hopeless against F35 of these world.

George I can’t believe you are actually putting an effort to talk to these people. If they want to believe their ting-jing-bing airforce is as good as IAF, good luck to them. Stop wasting your time. So have they even figured out how many hours the Su pilots get in china, let me guess 45 on Su, 65 on J-7 and 100 on k-8 or cessna :))

Right mate. I would like to add one thing for George, whatever u r trying to make dumbheads here understand, they wont b’coz their only intention is to bring disrepute/malign the IAF rather than any intention of learning/understanding. For them who have made up the superiorness to PS versions of AC, missiles etc etc, they cannt stomach that indians have more clear & transperent system, can put forward Qs to ppl in command & get answers to their curiosity, while they have to just make jingoistic statements like plaaf will, wants should be etc dreams. For ppl who havent even been to their country less to the AF bases, they just cannt comprehend how free & democratic country works & how their autocratic is works.
