No, it wasn’t far, but I’d think about putting money on the assumption that only helicopters and the odd Fieseler Storch would be able to operate from there.

But my point is, if the flouncee had just quietly shuffled away without a fuss the subsequent discovery and head scratching would have been all the more noticeable but maybe without others declaring their wish to flounce out.
It is attention seeking. The “I am very important to me, but others disagree. So I shall walk out with the greatest fuss I can muster” syndrome.
My younger brother used to get very upset and frequently declare the game over by walking off with the ball – even if it wasn’t his – so that others couldn’t continue the game. My 18 month old daughter throws herself on the floor screaming, but if nobody takes any notice she will look around to see if she is being watched and move to a more advantageous position.

If the flouncee gets his way will he come back?
A problem I’ve seen elsewhere is that the ‘significant and knowledgable‘ flouncee wafts out, slams the door and others demand results to get said flouncee back since he is said to be an invaluable contributor ; flouncee comes back and almost becomes untouchable, since all know that to keep him what he wants goes – not saying that this is what this flouncee wants, or how it will go, just an observation. It is my belief that any ‘significant and knowledgable‘ contributors out there need to be on the inside piddling out since the historic forum is – stupid members and thread wars aside – the best general (as opposed to specific) historic aviation forum there is and if he is as significant as everybody says then he cannot be outside it.

Just looked – big mistake. Yawn.

Ban the lot of them. Ok, just for a week (coz I is generous!!!) and give them all six months probation, but cast out the demon thread as an example of the stupidity to be found of large groups of people with a common interest and a hat to hang their opinions from.
In addition make sure that their personal messages (don’t use them myself, I don’t even look at them) are made public (dunno how, not interested, but the threat should focus the minds of the guilty in a bowel loosening fashion) and names are named (sod human rights – nothing focuses the mind like the knowledge that your hidden trolling will be shown to the entire forum).

As for flouncing…I suppose it might work as a threat, but who is the loser in the long run? I’d only believe it if the flouncee has had his profile entirely deleted so that he can’t come back.

Not imagining that you aren’t a human but a humanoid robot with a sense for existence then?
