i know many single parent families

Oo-err! That’s a little like the old patronising Tory claim that ‘some of my best friends are gay’, or something akin to ‘I know a black man so I can’t be racist’.

In fact isn’t the use of similar pronouncements a little like that rule about you losing your argument if you bring Hitler in to it…?;o)

Not pointing the finger, just mentioning.

How about her involvement in the naming of HMS Tiger Bay, the captured Argentine Coastguard patrol boat formerly known as – somewhat ironically – Islas Malvinas?

Sorry for having a point of view and looking at it from another angle.

That angle being to slap her face to pull herself together and tell her to forget her loved ones?
    Fine.
I hear that approach works well for suicide attemptees too…

How about a slightly more practical way of thinking. Why would she want to bring a child into the world without a father.Okay it is his sperm,it is 10 years old and the child will never know the donor. What happens in the future when the mother either finds another partner or the child grows up without the father figure.
There’s enough unstable single parent families as it is.
I feel sorry for her loss but bringing a child into the world in these circumstances does NOT make a fantasy wish come true.

P.S She needs to move on and get on with HER life ,not his.

Who on earth are we to give her advice?
What training have we had that allows us to demand that she should let something, a reminder of her most loved one, the opportunity to have the fruit of his loins blossom (ugh!) into a child, a living connection to him, allow that possibility to be destroyed.

Maybe she will never use that sperm. It might just be a fall back, something to comfort her, a security blanket if you like. But to tell someone that she needs to get over it, to get on with her life, is hugely insensitive.

About 16 years too late. She was gone by the end of 1999…

What she said (if she is a she; if not I apologise)^^^

But no matter that the sexes might think differently it is still something that would have an affect on anybody.
So I am seriously disappointed that the idea that it shouldn’t mean anything to her is so prevalent. (Look it up)

The dreaded social media, Snafu – there you can see what’s going on. And read your history and you’ll understand my comment.

And…? I mean, despite their political bias, at least a news provider has history and some form of legal obligation behind it – even if it just means that Piers Morgan is no longer editor of the Daily Mirror.

Yes, there will be some vids out there which are genuine and news worthy BUT there will be quite a few easily made fakes because, unlike in the movies, it is so damned difficult to get footage that tells the story. The true story. The story that is happening in several places at once and needs a narrative because otherwise it is just a bunch of people either dancing or protesting (and there are quite a few clubs in Ibiza where you can get the same effect even without the assistance of dodgy pills).
And nobody really investigates those stories that appear on Youtube and so on. Why? Because it can be difficult tracking down the camera man, pinning down the facts and finding witnesses who can verify the events.
How many doubted that video of the marines shooting that wounded Afghan dead, claimed it was fake before claiming that ‘if’ it was real then he deserved it anyway?

I suppose social media can be a great thing (I don’t use it, since I waste too much time on computers anyway) but it is not the greatest thing. Traditional journos get trained to question and investigate whilst the new accountants – sorry, I mean media executives – just want to cut the penny’s and enjoy getting something for nothing.

Charlie, which history? Point me in the right direction since obviously what you know and understand and what I know and understand is just telling me you are wrong…;o)

    Will you listen to yourselves?
Maybe she isn’t in a place (mentally) where she feels it right to bring her late husbands child into the world yet.
The trauma of losing a partner is bad enough, without having to make decisions about whether to use or lose his sperm when you are not ready.

Glad I don’t have your nerve in my tooth condescending p*+€^. You can hold your breath and stamp your little feet all you want child but you know I’m right and you have made an argument whatsoever.

What, exactly, do you mean by “Glad I don’t have your nerve in my tooth condescending p*+€^.“? I think your auto correction function might be playing up again…;o)

And what is it you right about?

Dont bring me into this. I actually side with Russia here for the simple fact that Russian porn is VASTLY superior to Ukrainian!

Well, you can try using that as a bargaining chip but I don’t really believe it will work…

Um, in what way is it superior, and how can you tell where your porn is from? Hawky will be upset that you have dragged this thread down to that sort of level.

Actually, Snafu, I think he is right

No, no no. That’s not a phrase we use around here.

and the news providers point of view is irrelevant. We can all see what is happening on the ground and we don’t need a news provider to supply a back story.

So where will you get the story from, if not from a news provider?
We can see what ‘they’ want us to see. We hear what they want us to hear. Nothing more.

Did you hear about the Russia Today presenters?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26468837

Russia Today is a little like what Radio Moscow used to be – a state run media service pushing the states views and news and ignoring anything that the state decided needed to be ignored. These ladies were based in the US and had one or two things to say about the flags they were supposed to wave…

As I’ve said before let the East and South go East, where they belong and let the West go West where it belongs. History tells us it makes sense.

I thought you were talking about the trains!
How does it make sense? Which East and South? What particular part of history?

I’m sorry I started this. Nobody can be civil here so I’m out.

Lightweight. How will we learn about your views on porn now?

I’m embarrassed to say that the bad guys in this situation are the EU and the USA, and I blame EU expansionism for the current mess.

Why? I don’t believe the EU threatened to storm the barricades unless Ukraine joined, and the EU’s expansionism is grossly different from – say – Hitler, or Saddam. In some ways its more like a loyalty card than violent blackmail, with the choice being join us or we kill your first born, mwah ha ha ha.
