There is good output on ITV…

Definitely a personal view since I cannot remember the last time I watched anything on ITV; possibly the odd nostalgia prog on ITV3 (or whatever its called) but there has been nothing for several years that has made me feel the need to watch or record it. Actually, Channel 4 has gone downhill too.

    That’s great, thanks to all.
Interesting too, not the sort of thing you’d see these days which (of course!) raises the question of… when was the last time an ejection seat was fired for the entertainment of the public at an airshow – NOT used in anger, though – and has it ever happened in Britain?

Time for a “Cough” from you snafu, what car do you OWN and drive?.
    Jim.
    Lincoln .7

Nothing flash, enough room in it for the wife and kids, a bag or two of shopping, a road map of indeterminate age, and me.

I took it as the canopy is behind the seat.
    Heres a bigger image (hopefully):

Surely a test would look a little less casual…

Being a Belgian Fairey, wouldn’t it be suitable for a local museum?

Better a Fairey Fantome than a phantom fairy?;o)

I guess I’ll just have to make do with the RAF B17 pictures, unless Rat Acc has any pictures of F117s with RAF roundels…?

A quick snoop around on the net and it seems Armour made a 1/48 scale model RAF F117 (Model# Art 98057).

And if you have a look around the ‘What If…’ sites you’d be amazed at the lengths some people will go to.

One of them? Or actually thousands of ’em…

Snafu – I don’t know where you live but there are certainly no dual cycle/pedestrian tracks near here – there isn’t room for starters!!

Went past a secondary school this morning – was surprised to see the sign above on posts alongside the school itself! What sort of encouragement is that to the kids?

Well snafu, I did say a 1960 mini.(Rolls eyes even MORE than yours)

Maybe you did, but the implication as I took it was that the old Mini looked nothing like an Aston, not the recent version.[/shakes head sadly whilst revolving a finger clockwise at temple height, other hand placed wrist deep in a bowl of custard. Your turn;o)]

Lotus, Lots, Of Trouble, Usually Serious.

Grief, not this sort of thing…
FORDFix Or Repair Daily (reputed to have been on the wall of a Ford dealers workshop in the mid 1980’s until somebody important visited and someone else got the shove!)

yep the RAF conducted flights over Russia on behalf of the USAF, the RAF markings I think was a clever move by the US, they could easily have flown with Stars and Bars

Except that sort of thing was forbidden by their president. Similar thing happened with the U2s in the early 1960s; Gary Powers blew all that by getting shot down for the CIA…

Can I just point out that in many parts of the country there are footpaths, bridleways and the like criss-crossing the land. I know of a few around St Mawgan, Shoreham and Fairford, for example, and there were one or two not far from Old Warden a few years ago (not sure about now). In fact almost certainly every airfield is surrounded by footpaths – as pimply-faced youths we all would have stood there, peering over or through the hedge, eager to see what might be hidden behind the hanger, probably reggie spotting. We’ve all been there, done that, haven’t we?

Not condoning trespassers but those who are chucking the term freeloader around appear (to me) to not be doing themselves any favours with the casual legitimate onlooker – you give them something to gawp at and they will come, because they are nosy and things that are unusual, loud or fantastic to see do attract attention.
There will always be people who feel nothing can happen to them (and usually they are right), no matter what you do there will always be deliberate or incidental spectators who view without paying.
Short of putting up huge barriers to prevent them from seeing anything and keeping the display and all flying within the confines of the airfield nothing is going to change.
You cannot make claims about them stealing the view anymore than the government can charge us for using the Sun (in a usual Summer, anyway, but don’t give them ideas…). The best that could be done is shaming them with the information that it is a charity event or something and ask for donations – maybe the organisers could send a few stewards out with collection tins, health and safety willing.
Pushing the idea that standing in a field is dangerous because aircraft could crash there is the same as telling the locals that an aircraft will crash there, and that would probably set off the likes of Germaine Greer claiming that Spitfires flying around five foot above her chimney are dangerous. Again.

    Now shoot me down.
