Exactly, but because of that it is no surprise that the SU-35 won all technical competitions. It must do so, as the competitors are simply not in the same league.

Yet there is more to fighter contract then this.

Industry wise the Russian off-set deal is risky. The space industry is already offering more launch vehicles then there is a commercial need. So a brazilian space programm could be set up, but would it make money ?? In the end it would be in competition with the US, Europe, China and later India. The French deal however would be directly benificent for Embraer and the brazilian industry.

Furthermore the SU deal would also mean giving money to SU to develop the RRJ. Which would be a direct competitior to the brazialin EMB-170-195 series. So the money would indirectly help to bring up a competitor for the local industry.

Imho they should go for option b and buy used interim planes. And then they should save for a later competition for a bigger buy of fighters in 10 years or so.

I bet that in that time they could get Rafales or EFs for the price and even get a huge share for a new Airbus product for their industry.

It will make Money, because Brazil will become the Fact the Prime satellite provider to MERCOSUR, Latin america can have more TV coverage via Brazilian Satellites, and will give Brazil enough capabilities to pull other Latinamerican aerospace companies to grow through a Common SOUTH AMERICAN SPACE PROGRAM, Brazil should grow to get out of the ditch that the Latin american domestic industry currently stands and just giving up Brazil`s space ambitions will be a huge mistake for the whole of Latin America is good Brazil competes with China, India, Russia, Europe and the US but in reality Brazil will only compete with the US since the Russian, Chinese, Indians already cooperate withh Brazil throughout technology Transfers but the US wants to keep it`s monopoly in Latin America but If Brazil Space Program is succesful the Latin Contries will trust more Brazil than the US due to the lack of aerospace technological transfer displayed by the US in the whole area that contrary to the Russians are not willing to allow any competitor but the Russians are bringing true competition to the US fom Mexico`s Mi-8 assembly plants, the Peruvian MiG-29, the possible MiG-29M2 purchase by Venezuela and Argentina and their involvemnet in the Brazilian Space Program and FX fighter program
A
The Embraer 190 series is more than a match to the Russian civil industry that currently stands behind Brazil in the civil arena and avibras will grow to become a more powerful competitor to Embraer therfore improving Embraer

Nice pics guys.
Flex, the pic of that Ukrainian MiG-23UB 50o/l looks an awful lot like it was taken at the Lviv airshow which saw that horrible Flanker crash. The Fitter in the background was on quite a few of the news pictures which came out after that disaster. I think the Fitter was a writeoff as well because of the debris.

Flogger,
The MiG-23MLD with the white/blue/red tail is in storage at Lipetsk, which is in Russia. It’s not a former Belarus machine (it could have been based there, but it never was part of the Belarus AF). Also, the Russian long-fin Floggers are almost always MiG-23M rather then MiG-23MF: the MF was an export variant, of which the Soviets only had a number in training units. The only Soviet regiment i know to have operated -MFs was Stavropol. I like your pic of that Ukrainian blue-coded Flogger a lot: it’s one of the machines i saw at Ozerne myself (provided the bort wasn’t changed).

Here’s part of the Odessa storage area in the Ukraine, including a number of Floggers. Some are actually MiG-27s, which never flew operationally with the Ukraine.

Indeed you are right, sorry my memory failed, it`s quit amazing that the MiG-27 was one of the first jets to have been retired by Russia and the Ukraine.
Here are some Russian MiG-23MLD and Polish MiG-23MF

Interesting article got from http://www.defesanet.com.br

Elections and Nationalistic Appeal

KLÉCIO SANTOS
Agência RBS/Brasília
klecio.santos@zerohora.com.br

Brazilian Government nationalist appeal is influencing the brazilian air force (FAB) modernization plans. Upgrade of old tactical aircraft AMX A-1, FAB will cost US$ 400 millions, for 53 units, but the spending will create jobs in the country, in the Mectron, São José dos Campos (SP), Aeroeletrônica( owned by israeli ELBIT), Porto Alegre (RS), responsible by radar and avionics production to be used in the aircraft upgrade. Also jobs at new Embraer plant in Gavião Peixoto(SP). This decision recover a domestic military project, not being considered spend in new aircrafts.

AMX modernization indicates the nationalist way for another military tender, supersonic fighters F-X, replacing for obsolete Mirage III, a buy estimated to cost US$ 800 millions. One Air Force source confirmed yesterday that president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is thinking to advance the decision on F-X Program and call the National Defence Council ( Conselho de Defesa Nacional) for early september, before the municipal elections of 3rd October. A victory of Embraer leaded consortium ( Mirage 2000BR) would be very welcomed by candidates linked to the government, specially the Workers Party ( PT).

By the way a decision giving the victory to Embraer would be the only way to the government, that always promessed reequip Armed Forces and at same time increment national industry. Air Force members state that if this solution was not possible, only way is to follow ahead with a plan B: cancel the tender and buy used fighter in the international market, a solution that sound patriotic since the scarcity of resources.

In favour of Embraer the Pentagon decision to choose a consortium where the company is member to supply the next generation of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircrafts for US Army and US Navy.

I think that defense net article is great. as latinamerican i feel Avibras Su-35 is the best option even the interim fighter Su-27 because Russia will support the brazilian space program and it will allow a new company to grow so Brazil can have 2 big aerospace companies and Avibrass is 100% brazilan owned if Brazil let win Avibras th emost important aspect for Brzil is not the Su-35 since the number will be just a mere 12 fighters but the repercussion it will have in the Brazilian space program and the influence in the AAMs made in Brazil

Angola MiG-23UB….
http://www.urrib2000.narod.ru/AngMig23fap1.jpg

Up to what is known the Cuban MiG-23ML were never shot down by Mirage F1 why the MiG-23 and Mig-25 are so downrated when they shot down F-4Es, F-5Es, A-4s, Mirage F1, Panavia Tornados IDS, F-16s and F-18s and perhaps F-15s
The above picture is of a MG-23ML on a Mirage F1 Head Up Display sight but the Mirage never shot down the MiG-23ML

Mig27? you must be confusing the Mig21bison with the Mig27.
the 27 was not involved in AA combat. it was only involved in strike missions and on many was escorted by the 15s.

well i did read a Russian report where it was quoted that the MiG-27M was able to outfight the F-15C in Mock combat
