Another shocker!
Very much hoping to see the aircraft out and about on the circuit in 2012.
Interestingly, the Fly Navy Heritage Trust (the civillian financial backing for the RNHF) says in its leaflet that one of its ambitions over the next five years is to ‘add to the Flight with other notable Naval aircraft, including the Sea Vixen’
Guessing they mean XP924??
Not sure of any more details about this, if it would be a full transition to the Flight, or if it would still be still civillian owned & operated like Naval Aviation’s Sea Fury T20

Looks like this has the potential for a very interesting collection – the best of luck to them!
The Hellcat has had its cowlings off since October 2009…
Snafu will fly with time, weather, test pilot, paperwork and I’m sure many other factors!
We all are chewing at the bit to see her, and many other DX-based restorations fly, and I’m pretty sure that will happen quicker if we’re not pestering the engineers, especially for information which I suspect many don’t even know themselves as its out of their hands!
This one is progressing well..

Just wow. Really shows just how much of an original airframe can be reused in a rebuild – quite a staggering amount given the airframe’s condition on arrival!
Quite annoying that the Search function risks being disabled due to silly requests like this.
At best, I would think it better to put a topic along the lines of “AIRFRAME TYPE/REG – REQUEST” – as I, along with many others, clicked on the thread expecting to see fairly helpful/new information come up from someone in the know, instead of a question which surely doesn’t do a great deal in a 5 year old thread.
What kind of engine testing does the P-40f need? It was only fully restored back in April.
Could be for all manner of reasons
Just had Fairey Swordfish over Southwell, Notts, on way to Waddington
I believe ARCo put the windows in during the rebuild – I know that the plan certainly was (and presumably still is) to use the aircraft as a crew transport/support aircraft for the rest of the fleet
An absolutely beautiful colour scheme, well done to all involved in the rework and repaint. Its great to see these old aircraft being returned to more original and accurate schemes, I can’t wait to see her out and about!
Still can’t help thinking that the camera window makes the roundel look like its been holepunched…:p
On a more serious note, how long does it normally take to do a warbird repaint and what work is involved?
I would love to join up 🙂
VR 930 is a more likely candidate at that speed, and fits the glimpsed wing planform better than a T28 too Joe.
Thanks for that – didn’t even know she was there. Must have been a high speed test!
Believe VR930 is at Yeovilton with engine issues, more likely to have been VX281
Or possibly the RNHF’s Sea Fury T20 currently being test flown out of North Weald?
