Albert,
thanks for putting that picture up, as it shows the rear two windows as they are now, with the bottom half overpainted. Shows they have gone for authenticity, but I still wonder what the original purpose was.
Rlangham,
I agree it is a pity she is to be hung from the ceiling of the new building, especially as she still has the original VIP interior, which no-one will get to see.
Here’s a few from me ‘fresh off the press’ today (16th), the Cosford Dak back on show in her new colours.
Can anyone explain why a couple of the windows are partly overpainted? One window next to the cargo door is the same on the other side.
As promised, pics of the Carew Anson:
Sorry they are not too great, as the sun was in front of me.
last few.
even more…..
some more….
few more.
Many more to follow, as I visited quite a few museums and a couple of shows, including my childhood ambition – Reno.
Unfortunately (as with quite a few museums in the USA) it was a bit on the dark side, making photography a touch difficult without the aid of a tri-pod, but I gave it my best shot anyway.
The ex-Staverton example has moved to a group who have restored the old watch-tower at Carew airfield (not far from Tenby).
I was down that way last week and went in search of…… Unfortunately it is currently in bits in a fenced area next to the tower.
I believe they hope to restore it as a tribute to the Anson crews that flew from Carew during the war. (Just hope they have the money and planning permission to put a roof over its head).
There is also a very well kept area in the graveyard at Carew Cheriton, just outside of the old airfield boundary, where there are about fifteen graves of airmen, who lost their lives during the war. If I remember correctly they are Polish, Dutch, New Zealand, as well as British.
I do have photo’s of both the Annie and the graveyard, which I will post as soon as I have taken them off the mem.card.
I hope to be going on the Saturday – any news of what will be there on that day?
I saw Kennets Seafire nearly 12 months ago and it was hoped it would be flying for the start of this season, but obviously not.
Don’t know how far away it is now though.
Great job Mark, thanks for all the effort you have put in on behalf of everyone.
Having never yet been to the Red Lion, it would be a valid reason to check it out.
Mark
One taken Sunday at Old Warden.
Taken with Steve in mind.
Nice to see a lot of people observed the minute silence.
Just found another one….
