Thanks for posting the pic’s of my ‘local’, andrewman.
Haven’t been myself since beginning of January, have they started work on the footings for the new building? (On the land between hangar 1 and the Vulcan)
Thanks Peter,
Have been trying to find out some info since my visit.
Peter,
Couple more shots of the Shack for you.
Thanks for that.
At least the weather was better this morning than when I went over Christmas.
Thanks Spey111.
I see the doors on the Sea Prince/Pembroke C1 (?) were open – what sort of condition is the interior in?
Thankyou amitch – those are absolutely stunning.
Thanks for the photo’s guys, brings back some wonderful memories of Wanaka last year, and flying in the Catalina – Superb.
Is the Staggerwing the one that was restored by the Croyden Aircraft Factory?
Thanks for the info Dave T.
Hope they decide to get up and running again soon, looks to be a LOT of work to be done on the aircraft, but they have the makings of a decent collection.
Good luck to them.
Cosford, 2/1/05
G-HUEY was, as of last September, in the back of a hangar at North Weald awaiting restoration, but just to confuse the issue, the Huey on show at the Museum of Army Flying claims to be G-HUEY also, according to the display board !
Thanks Dave T.
Would be interested to know what happened to the rest of the Venom, as there are just a pair of wings complete with tip-tanks, just resting on stands.
Cheers
TMN
Here is one in ‘civvies’
Sorry the photo’s don’t take in the whole aircraft.
😮
Thanks Dave T.
Perhaps there may be hope for some of them then.
Couple more photo’s anyway.
Couple of photo’s of Cosfords Mustang taken 2/1/05.
I seem to remember reading somewhere it was involved in a (sadly) fatal accident in the 1970s or 80s, and was restored as a museum piece afterwards.
Can anyone shed any more light?
When I visited in October, the staff at the Midland Air Museum in Coventry could not have been more friendly, I was even offered the chance to have a crawl around the inside of the Canberra by the gentleman who had been working on it since the beginning of the year. Of course I accepted (he has carried out a wonderful restoration to the interior), and was more than happy to answer all my questions, even though it was a cold and breezy Sunday afternoon!
The most moving collection I have visited though has to be East Kirkby. Its been a few years (’98 I think) since I visited, but the storyboards around the hangar where Just Jane is kept, telling of what the crews went through on the missions, had a very deep effect on me which I have remembered ever since.
Must get back there some day.
