    Hi Chaps,

Wonder if you can help me, i’ve just bought the aformentioned film on DVD and have really enjoyed watching it again after so long. Of course the aerial sequences are excellent, famously ‘that’ scene where Ray Hanna waves at young Jim. I’ve been traweling through the internet and the forums trying to find out which P-51’s were used by OFMC in the movie.

I can only identify G-HAEC (Now with Rob Davies) as playing “Missy Wong From Hong-Kong”. If I recall correctly, there were 2 other aircraft used. One of which is named ‘Tugboat’ or ‘Jugboat’ (?) the aircraft that Hanna Sr flies in the waving sequence. And another, the noseart name i cannot recall.

Can anyone shed any light on the aircraft, where they are now and if anyone has any photos of the aircraft from the filming I would be most appreciative!

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

Quite agree! Here is Hurricane LF738 (now at Cosford) and Spitfire 16, SL674, at Biggin Hill when I first saw them on 9th March 1971 (roses not yet out!)

Was SL674 ever on the gate at Bentley Priory?

Thanks for the info Mr A. What were SM520 movements before going to South Africa. All I have is with 33 MU at Lyneham in November 1944 then to SAAF in June 1948.

Although this aircraft is listed as an ex-Israel airframe. But can anyone also confirm that the wings used on this aircraft originated from one of the two Mustangs held by the Dutch Technical University at Delft and acquired by Mr Lamplough in the late seventies/early eighties

    Cheers

    Cees

Was it the mainplane from 44-72770 that was used on Miss Helen!

That red stripe, can anyone confirm it was defiantly red? The more I look at the photos, the more I believe it is the same colour as the lighter checks on the nose, i.e. yellow.

The 338th FS used a 2 inch wide green band as a border between the OD and natural metal finish. HTH
