is the 7E7 really a true replacement? Surely a single aisle short haul varient would be better, using the same technology as the 7E7. The 737x or whatever its called tauted by Boeing seems to be a better option with 120-220 seating in a single class. Remember charter airline arn’t really going for capasity like they did in the 80’s and 90’s, and are providing a service more like the LCC’s. this means more frequent flights (nearly daily instead of 1 or 2 times a week) with slightly smaller aircraft ie using more 320’s/321’s instead of the 753/767 and even the older 752. A good examle of that is the new ZB MAN-TFS route. Since 1999 they operated a 330 on Tuesdays and Fridays to cope with the arrivals and departures from the hotels. This flight has now been split with a daily ZB 320 flight at the same time there is a MON 321 charter flight that operates the old 330. It means that the customer has more choise and will be able to have a more flexable holiday.

I read a fact also the other day that the 321 is the most economical (seat per mile cost) of any single-aisle aircraft. This could be a reason for the change!

yeah, that could work. Also what will happen to the 767’s with the commonality with the 75? There was a rumour going arond a couple of years ago that they were going to get rid of them, but they are still here. the thing is what is there to replace them? and as the 757’s are quite new what is stopping them doing european routes from MAN with them? or is there not enough capasity?

also, what about the charter routes like skiathos?

The only airline that seems to be able to use the 321 well in the uk is BMed. I can see BA doing very well with the 321 and the 757’s will be left out to dry.

Yes, I agree. ZB must have a small market for the GIB flights as they also have AGP an hour down the road. If they are too big for a 320 and 321’s can’t go there, then why not offer x2 DAILY instead of once with a 320. this will give more variation in departures and will benefit ZB hold on the airport. This means that they will be able to carrry 360 people a day, instead of 230. Is this too much capasity, do they need 319’s (?) to fill the gap. GB also fly to GIB and also use 320’s and before that 737’s. From what I know they have never used the 321’s on the route which may also be another indication.

As a side note, how old are the current BA 757’s? As some of the last to leave went to FCA, could these be refitted and bought by ZB. Its just an idea, as ZB really need extra aircraft to expand.

yeah, some of the 757’s are 20 years old nearly and thats near the same age as some Ryanair 732’s! There has been a logical progreesion in the medium-range medium capasity sector, right from the 707, to the 727, to the 757 and now to the 321. Boeing don’t seen to want to respond to this, where the 738 is too small and the 739 cannot give extra capasity because of the exit doors.

i didn’t know that they couldnt operate GIB with a 321, but I have been to Tenerife a couple of times on ZB and found them to be really nice.

What about a 737-900, when they have got the fuel and the number of exit doors correct? With winglets maybe?

What are flight supps anyway, why do they only apply to some flights? I just dont understand the logic.
