I don’t believe it to have ever been in Ryanair’s nature to directly compete with EZY.

… other than on the following routes:

    • STN-CIA – GO started the route, FR joined them, U2 dropped it
    • EMA-CIA – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • STN-VLC- U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • STN-LEI – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • LGW-SNN – U2 started the route, FR joined them, U2 dropped it
    • LGW-ORK – U2 started the route, FR joined them, U2 dropped it
    • LGW-NOC – U2 started the route, FR joined them, U2 dropped it, then FR dropped it too
    • LPL-KRK – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • LPL-PMI – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • LPL-ALC – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • STN-PMI – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • STN-ALC – U2 started the route, FR joined them
    • CIA-MAD – U2 started the route, FR joined them

The skies are getting increasingly crowded. The LCCs have little choice but to tread on each other’s toes more and more often.

    Famous last words?

EI also operated one daily DUB-BRS and they do quite well on it even with FR on the route.

At the moment DUB-BRS doesn’t seem to be bookable with EI beyond the end of March 07.

Unfortunately, this appears to underline what I was saying about DUB – NCL. I hope that I am wrong…

    Over-capacity?

    Hi,

This struck me as being a rather odd choice of route for EI.

After having taken a beating on DUB – LPL, they have chosen a market where conditions are arguably worse.

In my view, there is already over-capacity in the DUB – NCL / MME market. Although FR have succeeded in increasing passenger numbers on DUB – NCL, load factors have been weak since the introduction of the B738s (see CAA stats). DUB – MME has been suffering from a similar problem, which has led to the frequency reduction over the winter. Now EI are trying to join what appears to be an already saturated market.

FRs’s dominance of the UK – Ireland market shows clearly that price beats service in the vast majority of cases and EIs average short haul fare is nearly double that of FR. Consequently, I would be surprised if EI are still flying NCL – DUB in a years time, but then again, my predictions are usually spectacularly wrong…

    The market will decide.

    Hi,

Ryanair’s most recent 20F filing gives details of Ryanair’s top ten routes during calendar year 2004 by number of passengers (page 31).

Unfortunately, they don’t say what those passenger numbers are, preferring instead to give the number of round trips per day:

    1. STN – DUB: 11 round trips per day
    2. STN – CIA: 5
    3. STN – PIK: 5
    4. DUB – LGW: 5
    5. STN – GRO: 4
    6. DUB – LTN: 4
    7. STN – BGY: 3
    8. STN – ORK: 4
    9. STN – TSF: 3
    10. STN – PSA: 3

The information is out of date and I’m pretty sure that STN – HHN (4 trips per day) has been accidentally missed off the list. Unfortunately, this is probably the best that you will get from Ryanair themselves.

Hope this helps and good luck with your presentation,

    Simon
