    Hi to all.

What is the best way to go about finding a new airline job? What should the perfect C.V contain?

If anyone has advice or helpful tips please feel free to comment?

The perfect CV for ANY highly technical job – should always have a front page that contains brief summary paragraphs on:

    1) YOU – age, broad location, preferred locations, marital status etc

    2) WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR – most important – what sort of role you ideally want at this stage of your career and what direction(s) you want to go in

    and only then…

    3) YOUR EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS – remember one paragraph only – the lengthy waffle can go on the following pages

Never forget that HR Depts / Employers / Agencies have to wade thru dozens and dozens of CVs – if the front page quickly ticks the right boxes they will then put it into the pile for lengthier reading and consideration.

If the front page is to fragmented / waffly / difficult to decipher then it will likely go straight in the bin, regardless of how good you might be

What’s everyone’s opinion on male cabin crew, do people think of them as homosexual or not?

i myself am straight, but am considering applying for employment as cabin crew with easyJet, but i feel most male cabin crew are stereotyped as being homosexual?

so whats everyones opinion on this?

i am intrested in people who aren’t cabin crew as well as men who are!

Who exactly do you believe is going to “stereotype” you, if you take this job ?

I think the real problem here is that you lack self-confidence – and if you have such little self-confidence, then you will inevitably fail at the job as you will spend all day either staring at the “homosexuals” or acting overly “male” to satisfy the people you believe are stereotyping you.

Just apply for the job if its what you really want to do and when you get there, treat each individual based on how you find them – i.e what they actually say and what they actually do.

I believe your problem is not what others may think, but what you think of yourself.

    Michael

PS for the record, i am not gay, and am not some gay rights campaigner. I am just not bothered by “homosexual cabin crew”

I have a Canon 400D with EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM shooting at TV 400/1 and f13 on the LDC monitor I have a good image.
When I transfer to the PC Photoshop Elements I have a very dark image can anyone suggest what is going wrong.
    Thanks Simon

It may be none of the above answers….

If the image looks fairly bright and uniformly lit on the camera moniter, but looks dark on your pc, then it may simply be that your pc screen is not calibrated properley and in fact shows all pictures darkly.

I use photoshop myself, but am not farmiliar with elements – does it have the adobe gamma program included ? – this will assist you in calibrating your monitor to display images correctly for viewing

If not, try an internet search for “monitor calibration” – you will see then what i am rattling on about.

    Try:

    http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php

    or

    http://www.epaperpress.com/monitorcal/

I think it may well be the root of your problems and your pictures may well be perfectly fine all along.

There was an idea kicking round at the turn of this century :), that an American company was trying to develop a digital “cartridge” incorporating sensor, memory and batteries, which would fit inside the back of any 35mm slr by taking up the space usually occupied by the film cassette and the spool of exposed film.

This would have converted the 35mm slr to a digital camera at a stroke.

Interesting idea which was touted round between 1997 (ish) and 2000, but never appeared because, i believe, of ongoing technical difficulties and the falling price of digital cameras making it progressively unfeasable to produce at an affordable price.

As you can now get an eos 400 body for £375, i dont think we will ever see such a device come to market.

Hello again chaps, thanks for taking the time to reply. 3 out of 3 opinions that the ISO is too high, pretty conclusive then!

So my follow on question is this- as I understand it the ISO is measure of sensitivity to light of film. As a digital camera has no film does the processor then ‘pretend’ that it is shooting onto a certain film depending on what it deems the amount of available light to be? And furthermore, as a bigger ISO rating means more sensitivity to light, then why didn’t the setting chosen by the camera work in the particularly gloomy conditions on Tuesday?

the ISO rating, with either film or digital, is a rating of its sensitivity to light – the lower the ISO number the more exposure is required to take a picture in any given situation (slower shutter speed or bigger aperature) – the higher the ISO number the less exposure (longer shutter speed or smaller aperature)is needed to take a properley exposed picture in that same situation.

The drawback is that with both film and digital, the higher the ISO number, the more speckly the picture (know as “grain” with film and “noise” with digital)

So in the old days you had to carefully choose the lowest ISO number film you could get away with for that days filming. In the digital age, you can adjust a cameras ISO rating up or down as you shoot and you balance ISO rating (and potential “noise” in your pictures) against the shutter speed or aperatures that you want to use.

As a benchmark, a doubling of the ISO rating is the difference of one prime shutter speed or aperatue stop in any given suituation.

i.e for a given situation lets say
    ISO 100 = 1/125 sec @ f8
    ISO 200 = 1/250 sec @ f8 OR 1/125 sec @ f16
    ISO 400 = 1/500 sec @ f8 OR 1/125 sec @ f22

Some cameras adjust the ISO automatically, holding it as low as possible, but raising the ISO number in low light conditions – this leads to a noisy picture, but you get a shot that you wouldnt have otherwise.

I suspect that is what your camera did here.

Hope this all makes sense and wasnt too long winded ! 🙂

    Regards

    Micheal

On the BBC news to-night (22/6/07) I see the Polish PM at an EEC conference stated that their population would be much bigger if Germany har not inveded them in 1939 and killed so many of them. The newsreader stated that WW2 should NOT be mentioned especially to the Germans. Does this mean that all I was taught in history lessons at school did NOT happen and approx 20 million people did Not die as a result of WW2 or are the Germans trying to cover up history for their advantage. ???? 😮

No – its because a proposed new EU voting formula is to be based on population size and Germany currently has one of the larger populations and Poland one of the smaller. So its a really a bit of political wrangling by Poland as much as anything.

“Dont mention the war to the Germans (or anyone else)” has been widely adopted by euro-polititions to avoid dragging over old arguments and assist in moving Europe forward on EU matters

I stand corrected about Jessops, MMc – thank you. But I have had irreplacable films wrecked by High Street shops, unfortunately. And it has to be said I did wonder if anyone would misunderstand what I meant about ‘specialist’ processing; I actually amended my reply to Ivan about 4 times before I sent it ( obviously didn’t work ! ).:o

Yes, the term “Glamour” is wide reaching !! 🙂

Apropos of high-street processing, you are right – you have to pick carefully or your pics will just be be batch processed along with holiday snaps.

However, bulk batch processing allows for cheap prices – i have worked on both sides bulk processing (Kodasnaps) and in several professional laboritories. The price increase from a pro lab buys you more technician time which in turn buys you more care and attention.

You do find that many of the high-street outlets do have the facility to send films to a pro-lab, but they dont unfortunatly always advertise this very prominently

You are defining his ‘act’ as comedy, which if I understand correctly is meant to be humourous. Mr. Manning was a bully for all of the reasons I outlined previously. Therefore if you consider the deliberate degradation and humiliation of certain areas of society to be comedy then everything I said still stands doesn’t it?

One last thing, Mike Currill is right. All we are doing is giving him the notoriety he craved for all the wrong reasons. As for the man himself I can’t say because I never knew him, but as for his particularly brand of comedy, the world is a better place without it.

No – i have my opinions about what he was (as do others) and you have your opinions. Thats fine – democracy is about opinion and freedom of speech.

Therefore if you consider the deliberate degradation and humiliation of certain areas of society to be comedy then everything I said still stands doesn’t it?

Do i ? – i dont remember saying any such thing. My post was a counter argument about what constitutes a “funny comedian” – it is an inescapable fact that, for many years, many thousands of people clearly thought that Bernard Manning was a “funny comedian”.

As i said earlier, what i object to is your accusations of guilt by association – you accuse me of racism for no other reason than the fact i dont condem Bernard Manning as much as you would wish.

Thats a very dangerous line to hold – in 1937 the Nazis rounded people up as “collaboraters” for no other reason than the fact those poor souls didnt condem Jews loudly enough for the Nazi liking.

You should be very, very sure of your ground before you accuse people of being members of BNP, Combat 18 et al.

I now consider that i have clarified my earlier post (as you clearly didnt read it fully), have made my objections to your outburst (as i am entitled to in a democracy) and assume this matter is closed – unless you would like my name and address so you can run round and daub “racist” on my front door in white paint ?

If you find the deliberate degradation, belittling and downright bullying of anyone on the grounds of their gender, race, religion or sexuality to be amusing, then perhaps you should reconsider your values, especially in light of the multicultural society in which you live?

Unless of course you’re a fully paid up member of the BNP or Combat 18 et al.

    Regards,

    kev35

That isnt at all what i said – Moggy said he thought Bernard Manning wasnt funny as a comedian and i responded that clearly many thousands (millions ?) of people must have thought that he WAS, given the size of audience he regularly pulled in both on television and live, over many years.

In short, he WAS a highly succesfull comedien in terms of audience size and longevity of career – regardless of how people may now feel about his material in hindsight.

Personally, Kev35 i find it highly insulting that you have the nerve to presume what my values on a multi-cultural society are, based on that posting – i was discussing the impact that Bernard Manning had – it does not make me racist in any way – it certainly does not make me a member of the BNP

Or are you saying that mentioning his name makes me guilty by association? – perhaps you should consider your own values

I’ve nothing against Jessops, but they’re probably (as a high street chain) not geared up to handle an ‘oddball’ task like this, although I may be wrong. Suggest you buy a good photo mag and ring round the specialist processing labs that advertise therein. You shouldn’t have to travel too far in your part of the country to get to a decent outfit, and it’s better to be safe than sorry!

I think you are being a little unfair to good old Jessops – they offer many professional services ex store like B&W and large format processing , not just in-store Develop and print – i wouldnt have any hesitation in taking an old film like yours into one of their stores, as long as you explain the situation properley to them.

BTW if you do look at the ads in Photo magazines, dont confuse “Specialist Processing” services with a specialist lab – if you see what i mean !! 🙂
