2 very nice nice pics of the plane. Tricky to get white highlight levels right in such a situation, but your pics are spot-on for exposure and tack-sharp.

    Good pic also Lance.

Does anyone know what paint scheme the plane is currently sporting?

    Regards

    Michael

Exactl what I was going to say, there is no distortion to the shadow of the 330 which would occur unless the sun was directly overhead, which it isn’t from the shadows of the lamposts. Looks like the shadow has been made from a mask of the A330 in photoshop!

I’d like to be disproved though, as it looks great!

Aye – i’ll third that – its a top-down shot of a parked aircraft or the shadow is a photoshop mask -as the shadow is at the wrong angle.

+ there is no distortion – all the cars / objects which are in line with where the exhaust heat haze should be are tack sharp.

It is really amazing that despite a track record of outright lies from its founder, there are people out there prepared to believe that Alpha One is anything other than a publicity generating machine.

“I’m an airline pilot” – founder of Alpha One, 8th January 2005.

A “lie” is a deliberate deception. Although you can reasonably doubt his ability to deliver anything credible from this endevour, based on the evidence to date, you cannot prove that it was / is his intent to deliberately decieve people about his intentions viz AlphaOne.

    Un-reliable, Un-credible, even un-believable ( in terms of A1)

But not a Liar – unless you can prove specifically that he set out to deceive.

Lets give the boy the benefit of the doubt and just say that based on what we have seen to date, his ability for personal publicity far outweighs his ability to deliver on his promises 🙂

An dont be so vituperous about everything, Damien.

If i can just separate you lot for a bit whilst i chip in (back to your corners for a mo, chaps :))

I do travel reasonably extensively. Personally – i now just look for whatever airline fits my timetable. If the flight is only an hour or two, then i am not so bothered by the food aspect.

I would say that in my opinion BA are expensive, but if you have a booking problem or the aircraft goes U/S they will bend over backward in my experience to accomodate you and that includes an upgrade if neccesary to get you on another flight that day.

I know a lady who has worked for BMI for some years and she got drafted into the “Baby” service launch and she was appalled at the way they were instructed to handle complaint and problems – it all came down to not wasting time on passengers complaints and not doing anything which might cost the airline additional money. she said that such a situation would have been unthinkable on the premier BMI line.

For the record, the other airlines which have impressed me are:

    Continental to the US

Quantas / BA (one world alliance?) to & from OZ on 2 separate occasions. The service was superb, even tho i flew cattle class both times

KLM for european hops – clean aircraft and pleasant staff – cheap too from manchester

Alitalia to/from Italy (if you like aircraft being taxied / flown “Allegro” :)) and can be cheap (tho pricing is random!!)

The less-favourable options for me are:

Air France – expensive yet rubbish – dirty aircraft and indifferent service

Easyjet / Ryanair – i have heard just tooooo many horror stories from others.(tho my cousin always flys Easyjet – he is able to book all his flights to business meetings some time in advance and has not got a bad word to say about the airline!!)

That’s not that much closer than a few select spots down at the southside of 06R/24L at Manchester 😀

But we do have a higher fence!!!

I suspect the term “ego w**k” is getting pretty close to slander/libel.

Don’t suppose any of the juvenile “experts” would have the courage to address their comments to Martin’s face.

I think it is fair to say that many of the posters here (including myself) have always acknowleged that starting an airline is a mammoth task and would have considerable sympathy if an individual was struggling in this.

However, you would reasonably expect that someone in the situation Mr H now finds himself in would be seeking to distance themselves from the “Baby Branson” tag in the midst of such repeated failure to deliver on the many, many public promises made.

You would think that they would stand back from the limelight until they had delivered credible achievements

Not so – The most visible achievement of A1, to date, is the PR drive of which a large percentage is personal publicity about Mr H’s ambitions!

To set aside a large space for information about himself as “Baby Branson”, on his own yet un-finished website, is frankly laughable and slightly pathetic.

I still think “ego w**k” is a fair summation, in my opinion, based on the visibibly huge and ongoing drive for personal publicity, which is all the more ridiculous when this airline has made so many false starts.

Were it not for that, and the myriad changes of publically announced plans, then i would be far more sympathetic to anyone starting out in an undoubtably difficult industry.

If you look back in history, then i think i am correct in saying that the only time you really see Sir Richard Branson is at the lauch proper of something real which he has been quietly working on in secret to ensure it happens properley.

I dont recall any false dawns for him.

Spence your right about the snobs flying BA but the great thing is most people arnt snobs and those who are can go to hell. They make working in the airport a living hell sometimes. The vast majority of people just want to get from A to B and dont really want to be served a plate of fish crap and 40 bottles of champagne which leaves them leggless after the flight.

A woman coming from PRG off the OK flight 2 nights ago is a good example, she thought it would help if she came over to our desk and complained about the 10 minutes she had been waiting for her bags. I really do hope she comes back next year in the height of the summer and is left waiting for 1.5 hours.

At one time i regularly flew man – glasgow / man – london on the BA shuttles for work. It always amazed me (indeed it was the highlight of an otherwise boring trip sometimes :)) how some people posture and attempt to act important once they get on a plane !!!

It does happen on the train between here and london also, particularly in (or near to:) ) first class, but *some* air shuttle users have to be experienced to be believed… pushing to get on / off, making rediculous demands of cabin staff, making ludicrously loud phone calls while waiting to board which seem to be just a monologue to some minion on the other end about how they should try to stop the organisation falling apart until Mr / Mrs important’s flight get in as it cant really function without their presence….

I think airline staff sometimes earn every penny…

Nono Kev, it quite clearly says One Aviation (Manc) Limited 😉

Must be moving into Manchester now…

    hehehehe

    STOP PRESS

“due to overwhelming demand” AlphaOne (Manchesh-toh) are changing our routes (again)

Manchester – IOM £49 (tho that may change)
    Southampton – Manchester £49 (ish)

Flights start ..errr, ummm… SOON !!!!

PS did i mention that i am the youngest ever Airline Boss / Pilot ??????

PPS I cant actually fly the planes tho (havnt finished me training yet). I dont actually have an Airline either, yet, as i havnt made any flights, but i did once borrow a plane and paint me logo on it for the day.

It was great – i felt dead, dead important and succesfull and all the news people flocked around me.

PPPS Note to Mods: good luck in slamming the door on this one – i would suggest the boy now deserves all the flack he will shurely get.

    http://www.flyalpha1.com/

They’ve got a new website, but don’t try venturing away from the homepage quite yet as none of the other pages work yet…

Hmmm – and i wonder which page will have the most effort devoted to getting it finished – my money is on “meet the boss”…I note the “baby branson” bit has now been incorporated.

What an absolute joke – this is purely an ego W**k – nothing more.

Stop preening yourself boy and achieve something.

    Sheesh.

I went from an EOS 500N (purchased 1996 – ish) to a new 300D in 2003 and took with me the 28-80mm standard Canon lens and a Canon 75-300mm USM 2 lens (same pair of lenses as you have, i guess)

They both work just fine with the 300D – search my other posts for example images. F-stops and autofocus work exactly the same as the 500 and you will find the control layout very similar on the camera body.

I would recommend buying the 350D ( or secondhand 300D ) kit with 18-55mm lens as it is a half decent wideangle zoom for the extra £70 ?? or so and is not available as a separate lens to purchase.

    A further point about cards…

    From my own experience…

I once had a CF card which was apparently corrupt – couldnt get anything using imagerescue (Lexmarks own supplied software) and couldnt even subsequently format the card without it aborting with errors.

I thought all was lost until i had a notion and used a puffer brush to cleam out the edge connectors on the card.

Result? – card read straight away and i was able to format perfectly first time.

Probably a better way to spend your time than zapping aliens in Half-Life.

Ahem…just call me Dr Freeman 🙂

Cheers for that Moggy, I spose FS2004 will help me learn some of the lingo and procedures, if nothing else.

Will struggle on real lessons without a “Slew” control and zoom eyes tho 🙂
