    Fantastic…always wanted to build a large scale T1a Hawk and fit a live feed camera in the cockpit 😀

    I saw an identical box on the S&C, but much worse off…..perhaps I should model that one instead if I can’t fix it 😀

    Hi Spitfire Pilot;

    I love it! That’s a great build of a very old kit! I’ve been wanting to have a go at one of these for a while as I spent my formative years in an LMS signal box as my Dad was a signalman in the 1970’s. He worked at the box at Purfleet in Essex and then Upminster. I found a photo of it online taken before it was demolished, so I may have to build one now.

    I like the sound of the Wills detail set…I may have to get one of these. What’s included? Hope it has a Tortoise stove in there as this is the one item I remember the most! Purfleet was great because we had a siding next door that always had a Class 08 parked up and I got to play in it all the time. Upminster was magic too as I got to drive a train at the age of 9 as we had a branch line there that the drivers had to collect a token from the box. I ended up getting invited into the cab of a Class 302 for a drive down the branch line and back…wonder what the passengers would have thought!

    What I don’t understand, is why with a railway orientated up-bringing, I ended up as an aviation buff! Still love the railways though!

    Once again, cracking build!

    Regards;
    Steve

    I’d have killed to have driven at 9!!!

    Can’t fathom how I haven’t posted on this recently.

    The Wills kit contains all of the above (except for the light cabinet, which is just scratchbuilt with plasticard). It does include a stove though I chose not to include it due largely to it’s modern image theme. It includes more levers than I’ve installed and additional instrumentation. For about £15, it’s a fantastic investment I think.

    Got to repair it so I can make additions then (it was damaged by my nan whilst decorating).

    I like the cameo idea Critter592 😀

    If you wish to stick with enamels, Model Master do a good range known for accuracy (though, having largely converted to acrylic, I’ve not tried them – I just used to work in a model shop. Vallejo is definitely my favorite acrylic range, though I also use mixed media.

    I can’t remember it’s availability in enamel, but it’s probably worth investing in mediums (numerous types are available, for different purposes, but the ones to which I refer are basically paint without the pigment). These will act in the same way as thinners, but will maintain the consistency of the paint, if that makes sense. Flow enhancers are a good example, achieving a smoother finish without requiring several extra layers.

    Such a thing would also be ideal for the thinner paints you mention, thickening it without affecting the colour.

    You will, of course, have to check such things are available for enamels (I seem to recall Humbrol doing so, but I’m probably wrong as I really can’t remember).

    Mark.

    Timber houses would be ideal in the UK right now. At least when it floods our houses will float. Would probably look like Trafalgar all over again.

    Maybe this weather is the result of climate change experiments by the US Government to convince the UK to buy their lumber. Maybe get back some of the money they spent on our old Harriers. It could be a massive conspiracy.

    Where the hell is “Passing By” when you need him??? 😀 lol.

    P.S. Sorry for the poor lighting chaps. I’d even maxed out my phone’s brightness setting.

    It was one of my passions when it was repeated a few years back. One of the best wartime dramas in my opinion. Absolutely love it.

    I’m going to have to hunt for the DVDs now 😉 lol.

    Model Master have a pretty good paint range in enamels. They tend to be the more accurate colours. There’s no reason however why mixed media wouldn’t work. Enamel for some areas, acrylic with others.

    The aspect of acrylic that I like most though is the fact it can be thinned with water, rather than investing in special thinners (it is advisable to use thinners from the same manufacturer as it is usually formulated specifically for use with their own ranges).

    I must confess (as I’m also an artist) to using a lot of Winsor &Newton acrylics, particularly for weathering etc. I find that this is often a lot cheaper than using the smaller model-making acrylics.
