Are they lost? thought they were going to Brize?

    Isn’t that in’t’other direction?

Sod’s law it comes up here and i don’t know anything about it!

Saw one of the Sentrys from Waddo last night, not far up the road at Market Weighton.

yes, but equally, since XH558 got back in the air, hasn’t EVERY airshow/event said something similar, to pull the punters in.

They were quite low over here, cloud was very low, and they were beneath, or amongst it.

took a couple of pics on my phone, and had to look at them for a few seconds to convince myself what it was..

beleive it or not, it never occurred to me that it would be police/ambulance. Genius.

It’s parked, as you say, in a field, outside a small hangar/shed. Doesn’t look all that official.

Nose was covered when we drove past, and it was a good way from the road, but i assumed it was a Gazelle..

Presumably, it was actually the other one with that type of tail rotor, Eurocopter something or other.. EC-135 maybe?

    Cheers for the ideas, people..

For info, we found a lovely place called Brook Meadow, outside the village of Sibbertoft, just a few miles away.

Big carp lake around which to camp (and day permits for fishing at £6), and nice shower, cooking, and laundry facilities in a log cabin nearby.

better yet, only £10 a night.

Recommend it to anyone wanting to camp somewhere close to brunty.

In addition, it’s on the approach to the airport, so plane after plane going over with landing lights on, and someone nearby has a helicopter, which for some reason was up twice during the night, so it’s entertaining sitting outside the tent on an evening. Also saw a UFO, well, i reckon it was one of these chinese lantern things, or a balloon of some sort, but very interesting anyway, and you can see why people jump to conclusions..

No alien photos, but a couple of the campsite..

    ooh, Aurora!

heading for Scotland’s Area 51 at Machrihanish perhaps!

    or, probably, not.

Anyone know anything about that place, apart from what’s on the conspiracy websites?

All i know is it got a lot of money spent on it by the US, and it’s got a long-ish runway that goes out to sea.

And a big hangar. (Where they keep the bits of crashed spaceship and aliens in formaldehyde, presumably)

not exactly a classic warbird, but i just saw a c-130, pretty low, over holme-on-spalding moor, heading west.

did a couple of steep banking turns, one way then the other, at what looked like quite a low altitude.

seen a lot more hercs over here recently, though usually quite high up.

Bit of business? Urgent appointment with a cheeseburger? 😀

Visited museum on monday AM, didn’t get a look in the tin triangle, as the lads were busy moving engines out of the little shed, it’s a nice little museum though.

Weekend was a bit of a damp squib, wasn’t it. Think next year they’ll line up a few backup displays for the arena on the ground, in case the weather kills the flying.

We really enjoyed the RMC unarmed combat display, that was a good laugh, and at least gave people something to watch.

Not sure what to do next, don’t know if we’ll be able to afford another weekend away or another airshow this year, but i’m tempted by the 90th anniversary show at Duxford.

Elvington this Sunday, in theory, supposed to be running up the Victor and Buccaneer, maybe with a couple of fly-ins (i heard JP and Tiger Moth mentioned, but not confirmed)

Least if the planes are on the ground, we’ll be able to see them.

Looking forward to Thunder Day on Sunday, though i hear there’ll be no taxiing this time round. I was there for the last one, in the bitterly cold weather, and it was a great spectacle. (worthy of a few more spectators, but i guess it was a bit chilly for a lot of people)

You’re doing a legendary job keeping her in such great nick, we visit the museum every now and again, and i’m always surprised how clean she looks for an aircraft stored outdoors all year round.

Looking forward to any possible airshow at elvington next year, in an ideal world, a victor fast taxi beneath a vulcan flypast would be a great sight. Don’t know how the insurers would feel about it, but it would be awesome to behold.

Never seen anyone knocking about near Lindy with a bucket for contributions when we’ve visited do you send anyone round at Thunder Day events, or have a jar somewhere in the museum, or is it soley funded by the owner and volunteers?

Well there’s the thing with free shows, they attract everyone, not just us airplane geeks.. a lot of people don’t have a clue what they’re looking at until the red arrows turn up.

Lovely noise though, i remember it from when i was a kid. Takeoff was always the best bit.

Missed out at Waddington, only saw her from the road on saturday, so didn’t get the benefit of the takeoff. And then on sunday….

I was videoing it on my phone, and we were way down the crowdline, so if they announced over the PA that she wasn’t actually taking off, we didn’t hear it.

The soundtrack on the video says it all.. engine noise, bit of a roar as she sets off rolling, then that “wyooooooooo” sound as pilot backs off the throttle, then me, going “Noooooooooooooooooo”.

    Oh the disapointment.

Just hope they can find the money to keep her in the air for a few more years, would be gutted if that turned out to be the only chance to experience it again.

Seems there’s some ill-feeling creeping into the Vulcan discussions now she’s actually made it back onto the circuit, people questioning how much of their donation is actually going to pay inflated wages instead of helping keep XH558 in the air. Sad really.

Agreed, sad to think that so many people will show up for a free day out, and then not have the common decency to chip in a couple of quid to make sure it continues in future years.

Should be looked on as an investment in next summer.

Same sort of people who’d come round to your house for a barbecue and not bring any beer.

Sadly, while you can choose who comes round your gaff for burnt meat products, you can’t not invite them to your seaside airshow!

Sunderland this weekend, similar deal, i shall keep an eye out for weary volunteers rattling near-empty buckets, and make a point of handing over a couple of nuggets.

    stand corrected, am a moron.

first post said “newark another day”, and i somehow misinterpreted every other word in the post..

excuse me, perhaps a slight friday morning hangover is to blame…

    I’ll get my coat.
