yes it would be easier for 1carrier type,i seem to recall that there would be 6 F35 serving on the CATOBAR carrier by 2020 im just thinking that maybe it might be a good idea to have 20? fully worked up F18 by 2018? or sooner if the carrier is ready, why wouldnt the FAA want there own fixed wing capabililty? & the RAF get want they want? F35c, im just worried about the capability gap,yes hornet proberly not as capable as F35 in a lot of areas, also the RAF could provide the surge capacity of another 20 airframes if required as soon as they can.

well my main reason for thinking split buy 20 F18/ 80 F35 was so we could get operational sooner rather than the 2018? date, plus get the FAA dedicated fixed wing fighters,i heard we were going to buy approx 100 airframes? obviously i dont know for sure, and if they are already getting trained on them.

since we are in the F35 program bigstyle theres no point not buying any,but why dont we have for example buy 20 F18 superhornet for the royalnavy,80 F35 for the RAF,pilots are already training on the hornets so all will proberbly be upto speed by the time we get the CATOBAR carrier in service,20 F18 cheaper than 20 F35,then the RAF can provide the extra numbers on the carriers with there F35 when needed and they get their deep strike requirement sorted,RN get a perminant small fixed wing element back-all happy, regular experienced carrier pilots, also surely haveing 2engines flying over the sea has got to be safer just in case, and if the RN decide later to convert to the F35 we could always sell the superhornet to argentina!:diablo:

i got a silly question, bear with me,fedaykin got me thinking, since CB04 & LB04 arnt fully finished yet for QE would it be possible to intergrate the arresting system in them now? as it would be easier than cutting them up after build,i know its going to cost buying the traps, maybe it wouldnt delay the build to much? cockneyjock1974 looking forward to early next week then!

my main reason for saying it would be good to convert QE on her first service was to save money in the short term by not buying the cats n traps for a few more years,i agree it would be easier to convert her whilst building & more expensive on her first refit in the early/mid 2020s but the navy budget would of increased by then? maybe….i just looked on the flickr website there some really good pictures of LB 03 going under the forth bridge.

theres a couple of nice pictures on navynews.co.uk/royalnavy websites of LB 03 with the goliath crane in the backround,it does seem to make sense for QE not to be converted till her first “service”,especially if oceans going in 2016,also it does defer paying for the cats n traps,i would still like a squdron of f35b just for her (QE STOVL,POW CATOBAR) but it aint going to happen, cant wait till we see the deck plates & sponsons put on LB 03 just to see the width of her,i seem to remember reading that oceans crew was going to take QE out of build, theres also a wee bit of the carriers on britis forces news channel @18m25secs,just after the chinnok story, also she says its costing £5bn squids.

concering the f35b/c debate, well if it was my decision,i would of initialy went with f35B say 20 for queeny & pow, then mid 2020s (when finances are better) convert queeny to cats n traps then switch the rest of purchase (80?) to f35c, maybee less money spent in the short term, then just have one for stovl and one for cats n traps,i understand the bennerfit of increased range but… still have interoperbility with the french/americans,raf still get there deep strike abililty,:rolleyes:then maybe the raf wouldnt want the shorter legged f35b and the navy could put royalnavy on them, all happy?!
