hi
ref geoff b,your models there are brilliant,is that the proposed cva o1 from the sixties? is that a hawkeye on it aswell? i assume it depends where the deep strike is needed ? if its more viable from land bases the raf would do it?
im still releaved the carriers didnt get cancelled in the sdsr,i like dr fox,he seems to back the case for the carriers, hopefully next month when LB 03 gets moved to rosyth the ACA will update there web cam so we can start to watch the construction progress, what a huge airfix kit!
Agreed. One thing however that does concern me is that with all the talk of ‘Cats and Traps’ there is scarcely any mention at all of JBD’s – to my mind an equally important part of making the whole thing work. Even the updated graphics dont show JBD in fit. At least the US Navy seem to be going full steam ahead ……
hi if you have a look at he aircraft carrier alliance website under the “ships” headiing,in this picture there apears to be red oblong lines behind the f35c just where the jet blast deflecters would be,also i do hope liger30 is right about queeny in service in 2016,they would probly put her in “reserve” when the pow comes in with cats n traps
hi
i cant see why the politicians wouldnt give the carriers 1 squadron each (12xf35c) under navy control just for primary air defence then the RAF can be like the cavalry for surge situations & also the RAF would be in charge of the ocu & all the other airframes, planes perminatly on a aircraft carrier is its raison d:etre? then the RAF could practice on board for example 1 sqaudron once a month for a week to rotate their carrier skills, between their 4 or 5? squadrons, then that way they could keep practiceing their deep strike skills over land.
hi
personaly im all for the f35b variant but since the government say no,im just glad that they are being built, then maybe if we are very lucky that when they are in service that the politicians realise how versatile these mobile airfields can be for the next 40-50 years & give them the equiptment they deserve, hawkeyes+dedicated f35 squdron for defence, extra planes for surge operations,& my opinion that what good value for money they are! i just saw on the mod website that the brazilian defence minister is getting a tour of the construction so far, lucky geezer!
hi
just read on the lockheed martin website that we (uk) will still bebuying 138 f35,its got a bit about the 2011 paris airshow so must be up to date??? also in navynews magazine they have a we bit on the construction of hms queeny, interesting that they say she will be ready in 2016 & that pow a couple of years later, dont know if this is just pre SDSR dates or what, queeny as a LPH or cats n traps? if its cats n traps who would land on her first? better be british preferably royal navy!
hi,
i just saw in a few sites that lower block 2 pieces are getting put together & its going to be transported next aprill, ive also seen that some flight deck blocks CB03 a-d are getting transported in august this year,so does anybody know when CB03 will be going to rosyth?
yeh i would love them to be only used by the royal navy, idealy a third unit aswell but unfortunatly we all know that will not happen, but maybe if we could use the french E3 hawkeyes the royal navy may realise how useful they can be and buy some? im off in a dream world again!!
Thanks for posting the photo cockneyjock1974,i hope your right that we get both with cats n traps,i cant really see the point if we only fit one with them,i actually hope we can share one with the french (as long as they pay!) then at least they are both being used,it would save the french building another carrier,i was on the ACA website and saw a time lapse of the goliath crane, well good,so looking forward to the future progress.
For those unaware of it
http://www.1blueharbour.com/aircraft_carrier/rosyth.phpNice pics too cockneyjock.
THANKS SOO MUCH FOR THAT LINK,thats going to be so awsome in the next few years, cheers.
2012 before any decisions are made? does any body know when in 2012? also i think its a wee bit annoying the aircraft carrier alliance has not updated their website recently!
If the UK DO actualy get a new CV, they really need to look at revitalizing the FAA and having a dedicated air wing. Anything else is just a waste of time. IMHO.
totally agree, even if the royalnavy a squadron of F35C for fleet defence and then the RAF F35C for strike missions when needed that would be something!
if both carriers get cats & traps {i hpe they do} could we rent one out to the french when the c de g is unavaliable, might give us some income instead of her sitting round doing nowt,or even dare i say it brazil?
STOBAR typhoon that can take off with full fuel & weopons has surely got to be better than the f35c for the queen elisabeth class of carrier? maybe that would encourage india aswell saying that britain is 100% behind typhoon,
hi, since we have already bought a couple of f35b planes,i dont understand why we dont just complete queenie in stovl form in 2016, then buy another 10 or so f35b to operate of her, then go for the f35c for pow later in 2020,then you only have to convert one carrier with cats & traps until finances improve,
