I rememebr I was making a list of fuel efficiency for various jet engines, it must have been quite a while ago, because the newest things in the list were F110-GE and SNECMA M53, but I was quite surprised that Russian engines were able to cope neatly with western designs. Frankly, I don’t quite understand why it is generally assumed that Western designs have better range. Is judging by Fishbed and vanilla Fulcrum series enough to rank the whole industry? Looking at the range figures of Flanker or Fencer series I don’t really see any difference. I think it is up to each aircraft and its specifications. Finally, Hornets were everything but long-range performers and nobody gets excited about that.

IMO, the materials used makes the difference… western engines use better materials and closer tolerance than Ruskies engines..

Its all still a speculation from our defence minister, and maybe just high hopes. I would not be surprised if US turns down the offer or just brushes off his comments.

although personally it would be nice to see coperation with USA which will give us an edge in dealing with two different approaches to aircraft construction.

    Thanks

    Saurabh

Remember.. US is aggressively pursuing this offer… I am guessing some deals will comes to light after the ministers visit to keep both sides happy. IMO P-3C orion and C-130s are high possibility.

I’ll be honest: no matter how much they try, i will label ANY future Japanese fighter a total failure if it can’t change into a robot or other sort of mecha.

yes in some ways but the 31 has the electronically scanned radar and data link that is was a forerunner of in the 80s, plus effective long range missiles, good height performance, good ceiling and above all excellent speed. id really rate the 31 as more advanced and complex than the 27. no match in agility of course though.

IMO, Mig-31 is a whole new beast when compared to SU-27. 😀

similar does not mean that they are of same size or capabilities. I didnot state that Grifo-7 and Grifo-M are equal. just read that Aw&st report.

    Usual Oracle contradictions… 😀

I just finished reading a scanned article from latest Vayu the IAFs internal magazine on
    the Cope India 04.

it says the vast majority of the 9:1 victories against the F-15s were chalked up by the Mirages and not the Su30s. says the US hyping the russian machines maybe because US and France are usally in direct competition for sales, not so with russia.

also says FrAF Mirages have been defeating the F-15 quite easily in their own US-France exercises.

for a few days u can download the pdf here(Shiv BR webmaster has put it):

Pets ?, FBI running pakistani police ? 😮 , i wont even go into that discussion with you and cinciboy :D, as usual shouting something without any knowladge of it.

Arshad, FYI, FBI is not directing traffic constable at Karachi road lights 😀 . What I am talking about is ‘Big hunt’ which matters.. at least in sense with security of US and India atleast.. So dont read Pak local newspaper or visit Pakdef..

But more that actual real effectivennes of PAC-3 in Indian subcontinent , Its the Pychological Impact which will be felt in the region , As seen Pakistan is already crying Foul and China equally watching it closely . A few Patriot Battries here and there will make Pakistani think hard before trying options.

Austin. It is a real good deterent to Pak’s missiles. Even if Pak is not making much noise, they will be doubtful about their missile capabilities of first strike because of PAC-3 presence.

IMO India should develop its own missile defense so that it will not be compromised.

well Arshad I dont need to. ask the liaison committee folks at dalbandin, the guys with the PALs. you have been allowed like all loyal pets to retain some “honour & dignity” with possession of the devices but the PALs are firmly in Unkils hands 😀

and I see you didnt deny the second part – i.e FBI is effectively running the pakistan police now 😀

India worry ? let India sit with feet on table and let unkil deal with his self-created s*** :diablo:

1973, I agree.. There is no way US is going to keep off Pakistan at least for the next 5 years.. FBI taking part in operations and directly commanding the Pak Police and Army is well known here in US press reports. So Arshad wont be knowing it since he is sitting I guess in Holland.

“India can have her locally produced Su-30MKI’s, but then scrap the MiG-21, MiG-27 etc. Pakistan can have her JF-17’s but don’t waste money on F-16’s”

    – First of all, MKI is fall in different category when compared to Mig-21… I am not sure about JF-17s..

Regarding buying of arms.. India’s requirement has gone beyond the two envy neighbours.. Since the ecomomy is going strong and growing need for energy which is mostly imported it has to keep it transportation facilities safe.. because this is basic for survival of a nation. Since India has long coastline and offshore facilities It needs Aircraft carrier to patrol long sea lanes.

Tu-22M lease – this one is a stop gap arrangement to Maritime recon requirement not a long term replacement. Thats why it is a lease. India needs long range MR a/c like the Bear. These are supposed to operate along with Bears.

As Jaeger points out, todays defense deals benefit local industry one way or other. After the successful implemetation of MKI program, more deals are tailored based on this blue print.

For example , MRCA requirement , Hawk deal, PAK-FA (if these has to be an agreement..) etc.. 😎

Guys.. lets assume.. In the coming up Indian PM visit. US offers an F-16 offer that India cannot refuse.. what that will be.. Looking at local news and current goverment trends it will be an interesting offer.. here are some of the outrageous offers

    1. some free F-16’s (possible ????) + license to build
    2. some free F-18 SH + license to build
    3. ….

Guys add any of your imaginations please…

Urrr Indian, Im lost why is china forcing India to buy 126 new fighters on top of the LCA and 180 Su30MKI, the chinese hardly have the worlds best equipped airforce at the moment and I have not heard anything from china about wanting anything but a peacefull and prospersous relatioship with India.
I certainly agree with the pakistan thing, But neither should India be exempt from this, There is still substantial poverty in India (I know it is improving rapidly along with your economy) but the Indians are spending vast sums of money on new planes, ships, tanks, etc etc, when the only real threat to them is pakistan, which already stands little chance in any conflict with India.

Sea, India is flexing it muscle because of its economic strength.. it will steeply grow in the coming years..with the growing economy the concern for security to protect the growth. Indian goverment is doing its best to reduce poverty..As in US terms.. economically strong = military might.. :dev2:
