Like in… ?? They wont allow the grippen to india and not to pakistan or the other way around. Its more likely that the other party will “loose interest (to buy large numbers)” when the other desides to buy it (if approved by sweden). Sweden has made it clear that it more or less depends if pak/india make a peace kind of atmosphere. Pakistan and India both are evaluating that fighter.
Now coming back to the subs, indeed if india decides to buy them from france pakistan wont get them. Going for the Agosta 90B would be wise, as they already have the third one coming, more cost effective modern sub indeed.
Castor was taking about the european countries willingness to sell for cash upfront. That’s why I mentioned India will be favourite because it needs more in numbers than Pak.
good pictures.
But Seahawk; haven’t you learned from all the Gripen-to-India or Gripen-to-Pakistan threads that all western european countries will throw their export restrictions into the garbage bin when it comes to a customer who can cash up front. Big time. 🙂
Castor
True. But the number game favors usually India.
U214 – too expensive for PN budget and also political strings attached
Scorpene – option for India- so no go for Pak
T-160 – for China -> no way – Backfire might be… :diablo:
Wow… Pak is considering the request… No idea why Afgan’s want their old aircraft back eventhough it might be a museum piece.. not even worth to get transported…
Is any operational supercruise engine available apart from F-22 engine ?. If India changes its requirement to include supercruise what are the chances ?.
offtopic.. Any idea when Phalcon system is going to get delivered ?.
31 killed in Marine chopper crash
Very sad news. What kind of chopper could it be? MH-53?
Anything to do with insurgents ?.
And I get an opportunity to repeat myself yet again: The M/M2/K versions of the MiG-29 are practically completely new aircraft with better range, cheaper + easier maintainence, better range, better fuel efficiency, new avionics, new radar, new weapons, new cockpit, better ergonomics, lighter + better + more modern airframe… I may have missed some improvements…
If India is going to operate MiG-29Ks on its carrier then M and M2s for the airforce will make a lot of sense. Experience with the MKIs also shows that the Russians are willing to integrate foreign and Indian weapons and systems and if the Indians set up a local MiG-29 logistics and maintenence centre there should be no problems from that side of things. Can anyone explain why the MiG-29 would be a bad option for India please.
Question: What is it the Indians don’t like about their current MiG-29 fleet?
ink
Mig might be a new airframe. But still the basic design is old. Also I am not for Mirage either. Here the argument is for western or russian/israeli combo. Since IAF has already got to top Russian design SU30MKI it can be expected that IAF will go for western design. So Rafale is first on my list.
Otherwise look for PAK-FA ..
Rafale deal looks like possibility. But is Rafale exist in ‘airforce’ version ?. As other posters mentioned, Can it be produced in numbers shortly ?.
If IAF is looking for Mig-29 MRCA or Mirage2k it is better to wait and look into the future.. may be PAK-FA or what ever fifth generation is. Also IAF should field some LCA’s along with GE engines.
Mig-29 == trouble in IAF terms.
IAF MRCA : Part II
Previously considered or discussed aircraft
1. JAS Gripen
2. Mig- 29 MRCA
3. Mirage 2000 – 5/9
4. F-16 C/D ????
5. Rafale
6. Eurofighter
Is there a seperate requirement for a single engine aircraft (replacement for Mig-21) and a twin engined aircraft to fill in the newly formed Strategic command ?.
Please continue…
Do we need another Balkan ?
This is not Balkan. Balkan is entirely different situation. I am not sure in what way u are comparing.
In Pak, leadership (Pres. Musharaf) is supporting US operations (Afganistan, Iraq) but most of the pak people (pak street ?) are against it. Leadership takes it now to one more level by supporting operations ??? against Iran. Eventhough all the parties involved are disagreeing with the report including Iran, US will not risk a full scale war with Iran .. atleast for the time being. So most of the operation will be of sabotage kind.
Remember Iran is not like Iraq. No dictatorship and still Iran have moderates who can take over in case of topple of Mullahs.
Not really a contest if the US decides to take the lead….
US will not do what it did in Iraq. No resources. Mostly airstrike or Special forces operation. So Pak will be sandwiched in between. There will be an identity question for Pak.. regarding muslim state supporting operation against another.
Pak Vs Iran => hostile neighbours – Getting interesting
