How about a rebuild of the R101 or even the Hindenburg – with Helium this time? Huge, multi-engined, simple to maintain, Ok somewhat weather dependent but what a sight….

Congratulations to all involved – pity about No3 not starting. Awesome noise even so.
Thanks very much Martin and Ross. Such a brilliant forum this, grateful for your time looking this up for me. Should anyone have a copy of the book I’d be grateful of a borrow/buy. Will be visiting the site next time I’m over.
Many thanks for that very swift reply. Sounds like a very short war with a familiarly sad end.
Finally got some more photos posted of today at Waddington https://www.flickr.com/photos/f22images/
Just posted first photo of all three on start up on flikr and will post more later. Search for people CPL1 that’s me! Enjoy for those not able to make it.
Brilliant day at Waddington. Was extremely busy but even arriving just as the Lancs did still got parked and a great view in PAVE. Just processing photos so will post later, but it was a real pleasure to attend and one never to be forgotten. Plenty of video and photography will be available I’m sure they went to a lot of trouble to line them up and there was a helicopter and hawk getting top shots. Thanks to the RAF chaps for taking people’s cameras and getting better shots for us! Very emotional day.
Heaving yes! I got there early so some more for those who couldn’t at:http://www.flickr.com/photos/f22images/
Passion and pride well in evidence and the odd tear also. Brilliant and worth the 10 miles bike ride!
I think I’m right in saying that Mr Johnson dropped his Upkeep at the Sorpe after several attempts.
I suppose they might qualify as Historic – as in of or from the past?

Fantastic “typically American” all action and noise…could have done without the commentator though.
Pictures of the Dam
Lucky enough to visit last year. Awe inspiring to think what was achieved there. Good luck with the picture.

Good news indeed, such a shame all round.
That’s geat, keep them coming. I’ve put a quick example of what I’m trying to achieve on my Flikr site:

You probably can read the words unfortunately, but if you’ve read Don Charlwoods “No moon tonight” you might recognise them .
Come on take up my challenge!
Thanks for the considered responses, very grateful. I fully agree I’ve got to look at the people and places as well as the planes. I’m hope to also to use quotes so I’m interested any words or images that really get an emotional reaction. Now I’m guessing that most members of this forum have some emotional attachment to these old aircraft or that period in history so come on guys how about getting this out -it won’t hurt!
On a slightly different tack – anyone got any copies of those 39-45 Bomber Command images which aren’t copyrighted they would be kind enough to share?
Your support would be very much appreciated. 🙂
I’m definitely going! Hope there is sufficient interest to have those Merlins turning. I hate using flash so some form of spot lighting would be great.
