We are pleased to announce that our P-51 cockpit project has recently been moved to a new location, which will soon mean it is housed inside its own building making it more accessible to work on. This has been achieved after negotiations between Jason and a local business which has kindly agreed to the use of a building on its premises by the museum as a workshop.
Three of our members (Mark, Chris and myself) spent last Saturday afternoon clearing a path in the yard to the building, moving lots of timber, bikes, mopeds and assorted ‘collectables’ :p. Now all thats needed is another visit to clear enough space inside the building to make it useable. Our Link trainer will also be going inside the building.
It has to be appreciated just how tricky it can be these days to secure covered accomodation, local to the museum and also affordable enough so as to keep things realistic. I’m sure many others have encountered the same problems.
For the cockpit itself we are actively on the look out for upper longerons, cockpit floor, SCR 522 radio, canopy rails & much more for the P-51 – any leads greatly appreciated.
