    I read somewhere that the control tower and some of the hangars at Little Rissington have been demolished. Anyone know if this is true?

    The reason i ask is that i’m aware of the main domestic and technical site is close to being re-developed, but i thought the actual airfield side was safe and still within the RAF’s operation.

    Hi Tim,
    Can’t help much i’m afraid, but i’m curious to know if there was a particular airfield / scrappy that handled most Martinet airframes, or were they broken up around the country?

    Post war RNAS Ford – with its Wyvern, Sturgeon, Sea Hawk, Sea Vampire, Gannet, Scimitar, Firebrand, Firefly, Seafire, Sea Prince etc aircraft :cool:.

    Again postwar RAF Duxford – with its Meteors, Hunters and Javelins, all right outside my window :).

    And RAF Bassingbourn – just up the road from me with the Canberra OCU and its many visiting types.

    Thanks for that PP.

    Nothing like dismantling an airframe to allow water to get into those really dry tucked away places :rolleyes:. Not to mention leaving bits of it laying on the damp grass.

    Wasn’t there a Dragonfly at a UK museum wich was a playthingy for kids?
    I’m sure I’ve seen it somewhere in the 90’s, but cannot recall the location…

    That does sound familiar. My brain is telling me Flambards Helston or Torbay aircraft museum? Probably wrong.

    To be fair we (Dx) did have a lot of snow yesterday, with several rural roads closed for a time. The main routes were this morning ok but not sure about how many members of IWM staff managed the trek into work this morning.

    Me too Charlie, and in a warped kind of way i sometimes prefer photos of wrecks rather than rebuilds.
    But surely going back there must of been a time when h&s was not a big issue in the UK, as i do remember at least real tractors being used as playthings. Still high enough for little Jonny to slip off and land on poor Mary.

    And i don’t recall many examples of playground aeroplanes in the UK, apart from maybe a Vampire T.11 in the grounds of a hospital somewhere.
    But an interesting subject nevertheless.
