Judging by those pics and the sound i heard, i’m now thinking it was a simulated ejection seat firing.!
GGS retractable mounting Type2 Mk.1 8B/2860
I’m on the lookout for a GGS mounting as above. If you have one available then please get in touch.
Thanks.
Duxford Friday April 27th:
Another film crew, another TV advert. In the words of Roger Bacon, WTHIH ?
Couldnt tell you whats happening, but there was an almighty ‘thunder crack’ (explosion) and fireball rising up this morning, from in front of the Superhangar. Made me jump out of my chair, not to mention quicken the heart rate as i thought an aeroplane had gone in!.
Sad to see what I would Call some of your prize exhibits appearing on eBay 🙁
And shown lying on the grass in the top images
I can assure you Mr T that nothing is ‘lying in the grass’. It was positioned there for photos only, and is now safely back under cover.
Believe me, i should know!
Very nice :). It looked a fast and gentle display to me… just how it should be with an historic machine.
Presume the pilot is ex Thunder City too?!
Thanks Pete. I think i’m right in thinking that the 140 was only used in the Sturgeon!? The vast majority of the 28 Sturgeons built were scrapped at Lossiemouth and Hal Far, and with no major crash sites on land or at sea i thought it probably a long shot that any RR 140’s had survived.
Interesting what you say about midifying a 130 though. Do the two types have similar dimensions, apart from obviously the contra-prop reduction gearbox?
I suppose the souveniers that they are taking will be spread far and wide
No different to the UK then!
.
I’ll say it again, in my opinion that is a superb achievement by people who didnt just talk… they made it happen.
Looks even better now with the spinners and a period paint job. 🙂
P-51 Ferocious Frankie has just taken off.
I bet the Princess won 😀

In the first shot it looks as if all three undercarriage legs have started retracting, even thought the port wheel is still on the ground (albeit briefly) :).
Oh for crying out load. That is a disgusting way to treat such a rare aeroplane. Outside, with no covers or care whatsoever. 😡
The Catalina’s still doing circuits and landings as i write this. Watching it from my window!
I agree about the IWM. FAA aircraft seem to be losing favour with them at the moment.
If i had my way? Bruntingthorpe! If it could be given a home there and made taxiable, it would complete the line-up of Scimitar, Sea Vixen and Buccaneer.
Only a dream i know, but you did ask 😉
