Things have never been quite the same since the loss of Mark Hanna. A great all round pilot and enthusiast of classic jets.

Probably because of the type more than anything else, and of course its location.
Can’t imagine so much still being in situ if it was Spitfire related?!

Fantastic news. Having seen the remains myself i realise it would be a big project.. but there is so much potential already there. 🙂

However, I discovered that a significant quantity of artefacts from the Time Team A-26 dig appear to have been disposed of for scrap several months before and exhibits that were promised undercover space, were left outside exposed to the elements. However, the worst loss was the virtual destruction of an almost intact gun turret, after the aforesaid individual decided to dismantle it, leaving the stripped frame outside and many major components missing. Despite a thorough search of the premises no trace of the gun mountings and several parts removed from the guns themselves could be found. 🙁

Amazes and saddens me that even in this day and age occurences like this still happen.

I think a member on here had a similar experience with the old (not present) Tangmere museum years ago.
My only experience of lending items to a museum was to the Fenland Aviation Museum, and whilst i have recently collected all of them because i now have storage space they looked after my items with the utmost care and respect.
