So that makes six ‘109’ / Buchon derivatives that are now/soon to be airworthy. That has to be good news which ever way you look at them. 🙂
Well you did’nt miss much re the Typhoon. It was the quietest and most restrained display i have ever seen by one. Hopefully he’s saving himself for the actual display.
Seafury and ‘Miss Velma’ are getting airborne as i write this. Good to see some of the TFC fleet flying.
Very nice but i’m sure she’s been offered on there before… and in my opinion its still expensive.
So how many is that now airworthy in Europe?
Speaking of which.. a Typhoon is now practising at Dx.
Indeed… a two seater.
I spy with my ancient old bins the IWM Eurofighter/Typhoon looks to have been pulled onto the live apron.. approx where Sally B usually sits. Is this going to be a photo opportunity with something in particuler?
What makes it even more entertaining is that the guy actually believes what he is writing. I wonder if he is the aviation correspondent for a national newspaper :D.
Really good pics James, thanks for sharing. I have to say that i hav’nt been back to the MAM for a number of years, and judging by the photos the aircraft there are on the whole very well turned out.. with many looking freshly painted… so well done to all those involved there.
I will echo your sentiments though about the unique BP P.111 still being outside, especially when there is a rather obscure to the area MiG 21 parked inside… the reasons for which i’m sure will be forthcoming.
James do they have an AS Python in their collection? I know the guys at the RR Heritage had two when they were located at Coventry, but i don’t remember one at MAM?!
Love that Venom. She has passed through Dx a couple of times recently and always looks and sounds superb.
I agree.. as long as it does’nt just go into storage at Cosford never to be seen again.
Andy, does this mean that the original owners stance on it not being restored has mellowed somewhat, or that ownership has changed hands?
Rob.
One i forgot to load yesterday. Everytime i look at this magnificent aircraft and how far it has come in its restoration, it just saddens me that we may never see her take to the air in the UK. Over the years it has to be one of THE most hoped for and long awaited first flights of a restored/preserved historic aircraft.
Is there any news on her expected impending sale?
Mick Martin is the Head of Airfield at Duxford. He asked me to post the following (in italics):
[I]Duxford Air Show Issues.
Whilst I have your attention let me briefly address the issue of the “Fields of Duxford”. CAP 403 makes it very clear that air show organisers and flying display directors have a specific responsibility to ensure that spectators are managed to ensure that they are not under displaying aircraft. To date the CAA have accepted that this responsibility can only be exercised within our own property. However, the issue of offsite spectators is highlighted whenever there is an accident. To watch a show from the fields is an individual decision and the risks are yours to take. That said there are 2 areas at Duxford where I have serious concerns and those are the extended centre lines of the runways. In the event of an engine failure after take off or a loss of power on finals the pilot has only one safe option and that is to land straight ahead. If faced with a field full of people and children the pilot’s only option has been removed and the outcome could well be fatal. I am not trying to stop people enjoying the spectacle free from a safe vantage point but I will continue to try and exclude people from places that endanger the display participants.
Well said.
