Mark, Thanks for the delivery confirmation details.

Looking in the Putnam Supermarine volume (B Class registrations section), I note that the Attackers are listed as being for the Pakistan Navy rather than the Airforce.

Whilst the main text lists them as PAF only, did one or both services operate them?

    Chumpy.

Chumpy, to the best of ‘my’ knowledge they were supplied without folding wings (fixed) and arrester hooks.. so i would say airforce only.!

When I was in Pakistan the last twice I visited the Karachi PAF Museum, http://l.garey.googlepages.com/pakistanairforcemuseum
hosted by the CO there. I asked him about other types that may be preserved, apart from the ones in Karachi, although I did not ask specifically about Attackers. However, he did say that there was nothing special elsewhere is the country. I feel that if the Attackers were still around, he would have got one.

Thats very interesting Laurence.. thank you. I’m also of the opinion that if anything did survive it would most likely have been preserved by now. Although Pakistan is a large country there can only be a few places that aircraft, especially in any numbers, would be.!

That then begs the question.. what happened to them.?

Tell us about these numerous rumours. 🙂

    Mark

In the past fifteen to twenty years it has been ‘rumoured’ on numerous occassions in the aviation press that ex PAF Attackers have been seen in store in Pakistan.. and i also recall the late Eric ?, the then chief engineer of the now defunct Jet Heritage at Bournemouth, saying that he would love to see an Attacker in the air, and that he himself had heard exactly what i have suggested..!

Yep, it was painted red and owned by Jet Heritage out of Hurn.
It was the only Mk.4 flying worldwide before the accident.

Ok thanks stringbag, i thought it was red hence my confusion about its identity.!

Any idea where your shot of the Blackburn YB.1 in the scrapyard was taken.?
