6 bazooka’s mounted under the wings of a Piper Cub and hunting Panzers with it! I guess when you are going low and slow, you might as well shoot something!
This is for “just the stick” not the whole aircraft? just checking, EBay will not display item as the say it is currently against the rules for our country??? That is a new one?!!!
The only lead I have run into is at a film footage house. They supposedly show the Iranian takeover of the oil facilities, and British citizens getting on BOAC and TWA aircraft.Looks like one has to BUY the footage to see it. Footagefarm also has a UK branch
Great Shooting! Looks like it was a beautiful atypical day for flying and shooting! Either you were really close or had a monster lens. Mind sharing your rig set-up?
I am trying to gear up for a big show at MacDill AFB at the end of the month ( http://www.macdillservices.com/myairfest/ ) and you really can’t get close to the active A/C. That, and the tens of thousands of milling crowd in the way. Looks like you had the airfield to yourself.
Cheers, Great Shooting!
September 22 1997 seems to be the date of that incident, collapsed gear, messed up prop and spinner just posted to Utube a few days ago.
There is one on Ebay with a currant bid of only $9.98 (though this one isn’t the rare WW-II B-52 variety!!);)
Less stress on the control cables and rods if held in place outside. A/C don’t like wind from the wrong direction whilst sitting on the ground. Can do nasty things even if they don’t get airborne! Think of how much wind an elevator or rudder can catch, on something as big as the Stirling…you have a big bunch of trouble.
Odd Bird, I had never heard of it, but here is a pic link

and another link to info and a pic

Rare Bird!!
Here is a site link with some good info and nice pics of G-DAKs

including a snippit about another Dakota that had an accident at Farnborough in around 1990 when someone pulled the gear up while on the ground with engines running!!! And they worry about kids in cockpits!
Yup, Eagle! Though, it looks like they flipped the eagle on the VStab in the first pic. I wonder if they wanted to keep the bird’s head into the wind?
Hmmm…just ran across this
In March(1948) the RHAF identified and attacked two guerrilla landing strips near Lake Prespa. These had been presumably prepared to receive supplies and men from Albania and Yugoslavia. It must be said, however, that neither country is known to have operated any kind of transport – or other – aircraft in support of the DSE. Quite on the contrary, the communist neighbours restrained from such actions for fear of provoking greater US aid or even an intervention
Which says the airfields attacked were within borders not over the Border…..but then where were they expecting supplies from? Clandestine drops?
Here is the site I found that on
From what I’ve read, the Raf and RHAF were attacking airfields in neighboring countries that were supporting the rebels, so that may be the avenue to pursue. Perhaps they themselves were not flying A/C but getting support from the Commies next door.
From What I’ve seen, the old logo appears to be an eagle on top a globe…just have not found a clear enough image to verify! Must have had a very limited, short usage.
Looks like a B17 nose/Bombardier position gun. See attached link, about 7th pic down-right side
Sounds like it will be turning out to be a good show. I expect pictures! Don’t think I can manage that hop across the pond.
Abbott SPG not aviation related? Sure it is…they call them targets!!!:D
