Very, very sad pics, and it’s not the only one! Bits and pieces of our history just rotting away or going to the cutters torch! Kudos to folks like Catalina .org and all the other groups trying to save their little corner of it from the bureaucrats and bill collectors!

Merry Christmas to all, and if anyone asks what they can give you for Christmas, point them to the non-profit of choice!

As to the question raised, “Wots an F37?” it was the Supermarine Type F37/34 prototype for some bird commonly referred to as a Spitfire.

12-.303s in a Hurri? Did I read that right? Did a little googling and indeed, there was a model with 12! Learn something new every day! Be interesting to see the follow up on this bird.

I guess the Bedouin Militia were better shots than the Jamaican Police. i recall a similar incident from a few years ago when pop-music star Jimmy Buffett landed his Grumman Albatross off of a beach in Jamaica and the police , suspecting a drug trafficker, surrounded his A/C and opened fire. Fortunately, no one was injured and after he explained himself, was allowed to fly away home!

I guess people flying large seaplanes are fair game! They are such easy targets! 😉

It is part of the legendary history, Why not. I would draw the line at having the real legs on display……bit of a matter of taste! These are not the ones actually dropped by bomber I presume!?

The Mexican dictator and Generalissimo Santa Anna’s wooden leg is on display in a military museum collection in Illinois! Then there is George Washington’s false teeth…..I’m sure the list goes on

“Tora, Tora, Tora” a bunch of the attacking Japanese A/C were “refitted” T-6s.

“Empire of the Sun” another T-6 dressed in wolf’s clothing!

Have not checked what they used in Baa, Baa Black Sheep…..Hmmm, more Googling!

    Nicely done, bravo.
The Sound track is “TIME” by the band “Pink Floyd”(it was shortened a bit. I think the original is about 7 minutes, album….”Dark Side of the Moon. A Classic as far as Rock goes. (I wore out my vinyl album years ago!)

There are fewer and fewer Vets that meet at the memorial services these days. The Pearl Vets are dwindling at a fast rate. We had memorial services locally since we have a couple VA hospitals in the area and lots of retired vets in the area.

Weather or not the US fleet would have bloodied the Japanese Fleets nose or had even more horrendous losses is still in debate.

The aircraft at Pearl WERE mostly obsolete, many of the ships were vets of WW I. I saw a report by one of the war college think tanks that said if the US fleet had sailed, our losses would have been 3 to 4 times as high and the losses to the Japanese fleet…negligible!

I wonder if the Venezuelan people know how much their government is taking from their pockets just to thumb their nose at the US and to snuggle up with the Chinese? 40 days lease of a Super would bust my bank account and then some!(actually the first few hours of leasing would do that!)

Pensacola Naval Air Station got into aviation in 1913 and still going strong. Great Museum(gotta get up there some day!) Only 400 miles away!!) My cousin graduated from there, now he is navigating B-52s. Go figure!

My 8 year old can fly the X plane shuttle, landing………slightly different matter! 🙂
He prefers things with guns and bombs! (infinite ammunition of course!) I tell him that is cheating, but what you going to do!? I have not quite mastered flying my F-18 through the hanger yet-inverted. Do real jets have a redo button?

Some beautiful shots of some indeed rare birds. Great job!

One regret, they couldn’t park them somewhere that they could be shot without all the JUNK in the background! That is one of my pet peaves. Just can’t shoot without there being 132 other photographers swarming the thing, or a bunch of junk in the back mucking up the shot. I know, beggers can’t be choosers, but in a perfect world…

Has your group given this Whitley project a proposed Sq color scheme and markings yet or just waiting until there are a few more pieces to pop together before determining that? I would be willing to work up an illustration for it if you can scratch up the data required. Might help in fund raising and promotion.

See my site below-Aircraft Illustration for the type work I do. I’m always looking for that next project to tackle, and rather than finish one and put it away to gather dust, get it out there doing something would be a nice change.

    Regards
    Chris
