Great, i’d love to get down to Shuttleworth one day, especially to see the WW1 aircraft. Was the Sopwith Pup flying? Got a bit of a soft spot for them :-p
Always wondered this, but what happened to the real dambuster aircraft, before and after the raid? Also applies for all 619 sqn aircraft such as the Lancs that carried the Tallboy bomb. They were obviously highly specialised just for that mission, but seems a bit of a waste just to use them for one mission and then get rid of them
Very nice, thats the Fulmar that is now at Yeovilton, right? I’d love to go down and see it one day, too bad pretty much every aircraft has its wings folded
Imagine this on the Sally B
i think it would look pretty cool actually, especially if it means she’d keep on flying
My apologies if someone has mentioned this, but in all te threads I have read about the Duxford show, I think only one actually mentions the fact that there were veterans present – and a lot of them too. Bob Foster gets a mention as one of the pilots of Hurricane R4118, but what about all the others?
The same signing with Bob had around 10 other veterans, including no fewer than five Typhoon pilots. In other areas there were signings by USAAF aces, and the Hurricane Society had three RAF Battle of Britain pilots, who sadly, were largely being ignored for large parts of the day, which I find terribly sad.
Of course the aeroplanes were wonderful, and that is obviously what most people go there for, but come on chaps, please let’s not forget the guys who flew them!
Aww man wish i was there, i would have loved to been able to speak to soem veterans! Never had the chance before
I accept that the IWM is about all artifacts of War but other museums like the Chatham Historic Dockyard have the facilities to store and restore boats.
There is a large collection of RNLI boats at Chatham as well as a destroyer and a submarine. I think the hangars on a historic airfield should be filled with aeroplanes especially when some are decaying outside.
mmitch.
Good point, been there a few months ago and the MTB’s would go in great, theres one huge covered slip completely empty, and one only half full, you could fit all of them in there, would make a good coastal forces collection.
What movie is this for? Can’t say i remember hearing about a film featuring three Nieuports, but if it’s got such beautiful aircraft like that it should be good!

Kick me if I’m being too cheeky:
*kick* nah just kidding, great photo by the way.
There are several – including the one in the RAF Museum, one in South Africa, another in Australia, and (according to Vintage and Veteran Aircraft 4th edition, 1974) one in the Musee de l’Air, Paris.
One has to wonder how the local authorities feel about another vintage artifact (or two) being whisked out of the country – again.Flood
The one in the UK is a DH.9A, it has a large engine (not sure what its called) but makes it look very different from the DH.9 which was powered by a sleek Puma engine.
Apparently they might be moving a Schnellboot (German E-boat, much bigger than an MTB) there as well and also a WW2 version of the small WW1 CMB already in Hangar 3.
Wow, shes a purdy girl! Is she going to be a resident of Duxford now? Can’t wait until the Beaufighter is restored, anyone got any idea how she is coming along?
Oops, sorry had to many windows open and typed into the wrong box!
Very big mistake was cancelling the TSR2, beautiful aircraft as well!
Irish! Darn i thought she’d be from Chile or somewhere like that
Wow, shes beautiful! Is she staying at Duxford? Very exotic camo scheme, i’m not even sure what country its from!
