Presumably they’d have been the same as the Army – in which case a brown/tan colour. Post-WW2 the tents stayed pretty much the same but to a green colour, a lot of re-enactors use the green colour because it’s cheaper.
White tents, such as white bell tents, i’d have thought would have been used until fairly late in the 30’s, at least early war, especially in far back areas. They were used throughout WW1, occasionally attempts were made to camouflage them by staining them with tea.
Of course, the other option could be to get a 1940’s style caravan and paint it up like one of those seen at temporary landing strips, dispersals etc
The one at the Science Museum is a Lockheed 10 Electra, not a 12 Electra Junior, which is a scaled down version of the 10. Great news if it is coming to the UK, two or three were used by the Government for secret aerial photograph pre-WW2, but registered as part of British Airways – interestingly, at least one of them survives http://www.orpheusweb.co.uk/vicsmith/History/GAFTL.html – in fact, it could be this one, as it has been in NZ and now in the US. I hope the rumours are true, i’d love the chance to see a 1930’s airliner in the skies that isn’t a de Havilland product (not that they’re not lovely enough), and would make a good comparison with the Rapide at Shuttleworth.
The Electra at Kensington is one of my favourite exhibits, but it is hard to appreciate it as mentioned by WJ244. Ideally it’d be brought down and painted up in 1930’s BA markings, in my opinion.
There is a full page advert in the March 2010 Flypast for Tempest MW404. Special offer, £165,000
I’m guessing this was recovered from India at the same time as MW763?
That’s out quick, it’s not even February!
So very, very tempting….
Not much metalwork on many aircraft in 1918!
I thought that, but 200 knots could be a closing speed, taking into account the speed of another aircraft and your own?
The “Militaria” event at the National Agricultural Centre (as was), Stoneleigh. 🙂

(I drove past it twice but was too busy helping my son move house to actually go in )
Saved yourself a lot of money! £10 each to get in – managed to come home with two WW1 60 pounder shells, a bad back, a new shirt, a transport clip for my 18 pounder shell and a virus!
Hi mate, hope you’re well – over at Hendon there’s an Auster I, which is the Taylorcraft Plus D.
There’s also a Taylorcraft Plus C/2, which was used by the BEF in 1940 after being impressed into military service, with Leicestershire Museums and is due to be restored in public view at Snibston later this year – fingers crossed they won’t hang that one up like they’ve done with the AOP9 and the J1 prototype!
I’ve heard members of staff (and by the way, there certainly are quite a lot of them that are knowledgeable, and speak English!) say that going to free entry was a big mistake, and ideally would be the first thing that would change – and I agree with them. I was also told that there was a shocking rise in the number of thefts/attempted thefts literally in the few days when it moved to free entry!
Hi James, thanks for that – lots of interesting info there, and an e-mail shortly to be on it’s way
Cheers, Rob
Interesting bodywork on the Dodge it’s hovering over, especially as it extends over where the bonnet usually is
Has there been any official confirmation that ‘Jane’ will be in Dambusters? or is it just speculation/assumption that she will be fly?
I thought that one of the more recent ‘tail up’ runs by Just Jane was filmed, something to do with the film?
Pretty new arrival!

Few more photos in the snow
