Might be able to get up to the MAM this Saturday, any of you chaps about? Looking forward to seeing Victoria Lynne, it’s been a long time since i’ve seen a ‘prop’er airliner!

Sorry to hear you can’t come Cees, and possibly Lindy’s Lad too.

Went to the RAFM today to check something for someone on the Planetalk board, copied it here as a bit of extra info for next weekend

Apparently the Bomber Command Hall was closed due to ‘technical problems’. No idea what it meant, looking into the hall through the historic hangars area everything seemed alright. The upstairs gallery of Battle of Britain hall was open again, meaning you can yet again see what is (to me) the most powerful and scary painting ever, well, painted

and the Sunderland area too, which has been revamped thanks to the National Maritime Heritage Trust (or something like that), and includes a few touch screens as seen in the Helicopter and Milestones of Flight area.

Had a quick browse in the shop, do any of the aircraft modelling forumites know if the Revell DH2 and SE5a are any good? They were both cheap so might give them a go anyway.

Stafford does indeed hold a number of RAFM treasures, including some Spitfires. The ex Benson gate guard is one, but not sure on the other 1 or 2 airframes. I believe they are held for potential swaps for filling gaps in the collection.

I’d say the most interesting treasure the RAFM has in store is their Rolls Royce Armoured Car, would love to see that on display one day

Someone was asking in the thread about an RAF Transport Command liveried Concorde, here’s one i’ve just knocked up for some work i’m doing. Not fantastic quality but it gives you a rough idea! Also looking for more information as to whether there were any plans to acquire Concorde for RAF Transport Command

If there’s one thing I miss about Leicestershire (well, apart from a chippy, which London seems devoid of!), it’s the ASDA 747 – no one around here believes me that it exists!

Great thread, keep it going! Was surprised after a quick google to find out that there’s still a substantial piece of Sea Otter surviving

The Walrus has always been a favourite of mine – I blame Budgie the Little Helicopter!

🙂 There was a lovely cafe with good food next to Collingdale Station when we last went 2 years or so ago.We walked there because the food at the museum was so bad and over priced then we walked back to the Museum for part 2 of the visit.I think it is about a 20 mins walk.:)

Ahah I know the one, Zara’s – haven’t been there yet but will give it a go one day

B of B hangar opens at 12am when the CGW hangar closes because of staffing, i’d imagine the resturant is open from 10am though. Of course, if anyone fancies donating a tenner to a poor, starving, ragged clothed penniless student I could go and investigate one morning…. 😀

At least one trip to Shuttleworth, seeing the Fairey Battle back at Hendon, getting back to Brunty to get my hands filthy, jumping out of a plane and maybe starting my PPL

I’ll be at one of the main Remembrance Day events here in London with a few friends, must say it’s pretty dissapointing seeing how few people in London wear a poppy, at the London to Brighton concourse event in Regent Street last Saturday there was a life size figure of a man made out of poppies – I saw over a dozen people stand next to it having their photo taken with it, and not a single person was wearing a poppy. Does the general public even care anymore? A friend on my course said that at her college they didn’t even have the two minute silence on 11th November

Just a quick bump – who’s coming then? I’ll PM my number to anyone who thinks they’ll get lost or would like to confirm everyone’s there or needs meeting at the tube station etc. Should be a good one, and Hannants is literally about thirty seconds walk from the RAFM for a bit of christmas shopping for ones self!

Hahaha, not wrong there! I once got the bus from outside the RAFM to Asda – unfortunately it made a tour of the council estate before coming out at the same roundabout it entered, first time i’ve ever seen ten feet tall steel fences surrounding a primary school! Was rather amused by the dog kennel as a play thing in the playground with an old mail sack as an entrance

With a bit of luck the flats being built will help reguvenate the area (sorry can’t spell, just had a night out in Leicester Square!), at the moment Colindale is just a huge building site with a tube station in the middle, the nearest pub is a mile away and even then it’s a lousy wetherspoons

Airworthy i’d say about £15,000-£20,000, not much more than that, the Auster III which is being restored to fly is up for sale for £25,000 (not sure if the rest of the restoration is covered in that price) and is deemed as expensive even though it’s a rare type (in the UK there’s only two others). I’ll give you 50p and a curly wurly for it though!
