Yeah your right Jan, it’s more detailed in the book ‘The Longest Day’ by Cornelius Ryan, which I preferred to the film
I visited a few years ago as well for my first ever flight – they have a collection of old ATC gliders, and also a US Navy warbird in bits apparently, any clue what this is?
Oh that’s just my luck – i’m doing a sponsored skydive at Sibson in about three weeks!
C, if you ever get the chance, I recommned that you take! You will have a good time. I have yet to meet someone who didn’t enjoy their time in France! 😎
I didn’t!

Thing is though, like Kev said, we don’t know the circumstances of what happened, no-one really knows how we’ll react when under extreme pressure, and I can’t think of a much more tense situation than about to be overran by the enemy. Although perhaps in some circumstances the officers could be criticised for their actions, in other circumstances they could have done the best they could have, so can’t tar them all with the same brush. I’m not criticising what you said, it’s just that with subjects like this you have to look at each individual case
Oh, so you mean the officers took all the transport and got the hell out of there, without bothering to try and save the other men?
Stupid question, but what does it mean by abandoning the groundcrew? For example, if it was a fighter squadron, they couldn’t exactly get the groundcrew to hang onto the wings while they fly off somewhere safe. Does it mean they basically flew off without making sure there was any transport for the groundcrew to escape on?
To be honest I had no idea it was on!
If no-ones interested in the Harrier bits, how about the fine 1/72 Corgi Harrier GR.1 listed at the top? By the way it’s mine that i’m selling, my first venture into the world of ebay!
For all those worried about the Comet and Viscount, they’re going undercover after the Cold War exhibition is finished, at least that is what I was told by someone working at Cosford
It’s a shame BA can’t fund a dedicated museum in Britain dedicated to air travel – could have a replica of early aircraft, like the DH.9A, Dragon Rapide, Handley Page thingy, etc, and have the Comet, Trident, 707 and Concorde, in a big building, maybe somewhere near Heathrow. I’d certainly go to it
Wow, unusual to see a woman building a plane in their garage. They’re normally the sane ones telling the men they shouldn’t build planes in the garage!
I take it she’s an aircraft engineer then? Good on her, it looks great.
Isn’t P7350 the BBMF Mk II? or am I confused.
Yeah that’s the BBMF’s mark II, it’s based on her, good choice!
Dont you mean ‘Great Britain’, at Bristol? The ‘Great Eastern’ was a lot bigger and unsuccessful. Theres also a Victorian Sloop HMS Gannet, late WW2 Destroyer HMS Cavalier and a sub at Chatham Historic Dockyard, and apparently a Black Swan WW2 Frigate is being brought back from Egypt to Liverpool in a few years time
Welcome to the wonderful world of the RAF Museum under Dr Fopp.
Collections with the axe hanging over them and large parts of the most historic part of their collection in the dark “because its better for photography” or inaccessible because they “cant get the heating fixed”.
Its a disgrace and its now time to drop Fopp.
Here here – a friend went to Hendon the other day, the WW1 gallery upstairs from the main hall, the WW1 hangar, and half of the bomber command hangar was closed off, doesn’t exactly give off a good impression of what is supposed to be one of the best aviation museums in the UK
