Am curious though, does the IAF KC-707 have a boom pod? I do not see it in the picture?
The hoses are ok, but soooo slow plus if the receiver is having a bad day the A/R can take forever. With the boom I can usually talk him him on and do the refuel in half the time…
You are correct (and you have to make sure they smile), hence no B-2 pics
I thought the B2 was easy, but only because I was so nervous about hitting it and writing my name around the hole that I was super careful, the bowwave is no worse than a C-5 without trim.
B-2? Sure did, it was night, lights out and them dudes did not want to shoot the bull, I can’t blame them with a 30+ hour round trip napping on a lawn chair behind the seats… LOL
OOPS my bad on the the E model… Here is the real version, I remember that “Cowboy” was the driver, one cool dude that loves to have is picture taken.. Finger tip formation is his thing..
Here is the E-3D, them guys are some awsome pilots, I got the honor on refueling this one because the Brits wanted to do a story on the joint use of aircraft from various countries during the war and sent a British combat camera person up with us. I guess they usually refulel with the probe and dougue system but agreed to link up with us for the pics and practice…

Do not want to get in a ****ing contest when it comes to a fighter vs. support aircraft (yes the F-18 E/F does have sidewinders and such, but we have a stove and a crapper) but unless I am mistaken (help me out SOC) we in the -135 world had the highest MC rate of all aircraft in the war next the the F-117 and there were only a handful of them flying once a day vs us double turning. (Just trying to support the militarys greatest air assest… 🙂
Phil 😀
Now all that being said, the F-18E is a mean looking jet with the bigger wing and added hardpoint…
Ah not really, it can go deeper into enemy airpsace then the KC-135 can and it has a limited self defense capability.
WTF?? I recall a day that we went just north of Baghdad to rescue a pair of F-18c’s because their great Super Hornet tanker version broke down and had to RTB…
Besides we are defended, we have a sexton port and eggs 😀
Wow, did not see that one coming…
Also, as said the USAF chose the boom method for speed, you can transfer over 6500+ lbs per minute with the system vs 1000 something per minute with a basket, it would take for ever to do a heavy with that method (heck, I would fall asleep in the back, and it is cold back there 😀 )
On the -135, even with the MPRS system and a basket on the boom you CAN NOT refuel three aircraft at a time… There is a receiver wingspan issue to look at. It would be all but impossible to not have a mid air, even with two f-18s on the wing pods it is close to being dangerous. Now that being said, you can have two on the wings and one in about a 500-700 ft trail behind the basket on the boom and he can make contact once the other two back off. Just my .02

Why?
