I wish, even at this late stage, they’d just cancel the Olympics.
Too expensive and too much trouble for what’s it’s worth.

Is that Thomsons new livery or is it a new TUI livery?
How big would a parachute need to be to arrest the decent of hundreds of tons of Jetliner moving at 600MPH?
If they could make one it would be enormous and far far too heavy.
Look at the size a parchute that just for one…sometimes two people is.
Isn’t it great folks have different aesthetic opinions:D
Imagine a World where there was just one design of everything:eek:…not good.
Once the 787 has been around a while, got the lived in look and many livery variations it won’t seem as bad to those of us that are not overly impressed.
Lets just hope it does live up to the claims of economy and reset the standards that should in the long run benefit us all with travel costs.
At the end of the day it has to perform well as a machine and it looks like it might.
The nine in service are quietly getting on with the job which is always a good sign.
With the A.380 and thinking of other double deckers, Breguet Universal, Lockheed Constitution, Convair XC-99, Boeing Stratocruiser I don’t think it’s possible to have one that is good to look at.
It’s always going to be a bit of a lump.
The 787 doesn’t have any excuses:D
Honestly…in my opinion, the 787 is about as ugly as a jet of that type could be.
Each to their own of course but it its up there with the Comet and Caravelle in the stakes for the ugliest jet of all time. :diablo:
It’s the nose of the last two that I find so ugly and the 787’s nose is reminiscent of that, which was basically the same in the European duo.
The extreme bend in the wings and the tail shape is rather odd on the 787 too.
Better though than the original impressions of the earlier idea for the fin shape.:D
You mention electric trains and pre charged batteries for the aircraft but how do you charge the batteries?
You mention pedal power but you’d have to generate more power pedalling that it would take to power the aeroplane as some gets lost in transition.
Solar power is no good in the dark, obviously and some parts of the World get many months of darkness and those that live near the equator always get twelve hours of darkness a day.
Electric power is often a falisy..for example people thing they are saving the planet by plugging in an electric car but down the line a Power Station burns fossil fuel to generate that electricity and because it has to go through stages, it is more fuel burnt to produce the energy than if the car just burned it in the first place.
Sure is a tricky one…the one saviour is nuclear power, unfortunately although it could produce all the electric needed to charge batteries, it is very dangerous.
Maybe hydrogen has a future, but it’s likely that different uses of power will need different solutions rather the the one does all of fossil fuel technology.
Other problem too is finding an alternate to plastic, even if it does get recycled it needs fossil fuel to re process and much is lost anyway meaning you can only slow the usage up not stop it.
Well.
Some people are good at making models..better than the average and good enough for museums etc.
Then there are a small band of folk who are just brilliant. You can see how they do it but wonder how they manage it and keep patience for all the time and care it needs to be something special
Then, now and again, you see this.
It doesn’t seem possible, the detail and craftsmanship is beyond comprehension.
It is truly outstanding and I can’t say more as there are not words to describe it.
Amazing
Alex…hope soon for a better future for you and of course everyone in Greece.
Garry
it’s been considered on and off for years, maybe not officially but it has been mooted many times
Weight always seemed to be the cry off.
Only been done in small aircraft
New one on me…I look into that
Got it
Air Service Nantes
Air Enterprise International 🙂
The titles are there, just not very strong
The aircraft was performing the inaugural flight on that route.
I’m not familiar with Birmingham, but as ideas go this is an excellent proposal.
I like the idea of bikes and foot being free too.
Keeping all interested folk in on place with amenities is always going to be a plus.
The fact that authorites seem to want little to do with providing facillities doesn’t necessaraly mean they would oppose anything that third parties are willing to put into place.
I did mention in a much earlier that it was possible that it was used by the authorities to show there were on the ball so to speak…But I’m not so sure they themselves would have had to put any effort into that.
I would think that media hype played a large part.
They were even going on about what sonic booms were and almost making it sound like War Of The Worlds.
I would think the security forces just did their job and the media and the public did the rest.
As ATR says, this sort of heightened scramble went on for years and it was just a part of life.
Nowadays they like to make the biggest thing they can out of nothing to fill the news.
Whether they did or not doesn’t really matter as this only happened because there was a perceived threat and as far as they knew at the time a real threat.
It is useful and perhaps to know that a quick response was forthcoming
As for cost to the taxpayer, if none of this happened and they dismantled the extra high security saving millions, you won’t see any reductions in you tax bill or a refund.
