In the past when its bad snow on the cards we at the Aeropark home to Vulcan XM575 put the towbar on to weigh the nose down…..

I think it has already been mentioned – manpower, combined with the shear quantity of heavy snow.

Ok, I do wish you all the best with a safe descent GOOD LOOK…..

I suppose that would be an idea but i dont think it crossed any of our minds that the old girl would tip. In my opinion, with probably over a months snow and ice on the wing (about 8″ deep on the starbooard elevon alone) that a tow bar wouldn’t carry enough weight to hold her down. As far as i’m concerned if the overall weight of the a/c which still has all 4 RR Olympus 201 engines in and so must about the 24 ton mark can’t hold her on all 3 gears then only a superhuman effort by volunteers would have stopped her going over. And to be quite honest we just dont have the manpower. With any luck the publicity will change that but it’ll still be my vulcan lol 😉

    See Link Below

This is all it would have taken, we do it with 575, why leave over a months snow and ice on the wings knowing the current weather forecast was going to be heavy snow fall’s for the whole uk,

Im looking for some video footage of XM575 is flight and/or running on the ground while she was still in service. Two airshows in particular i know of her presence at were the 1981 waddington airshow with a 4-ship vulcan scramble and the middenhall air fete of either 81 or 82. If anyone knows of any footage showing this aircraft in flight would you please be able to point me in the right direction?
    Thanks.

Found this short vid, Vulcan display at Mildenhall Air Fete in 1982-ish, Don’t think it’s 575 must have been 1981 will keep looking…..

I must say that some on this site just read to much in to things, you ask for some help and all you get is DOUBTERS, like Graham Vale says we only needed to know to check.

Just my view but I personally think the last Aero jumble was very disappointing…. Should have been called books Models & print sale. NOT a lot in the way of Aircraft parts… Still it was good to catch up with fellow Cockpiteers…. Think I will give the March one a miss…. Like I say just my view only I’m not looking for books pictures or Models 

Big Thanks again to NAM for a Great event…. Shame about the whether… As good as it was to see the 2nd APU run off the day on the Saturday…. It’s worth a mention when JR. Checks the aircraft to check the OM-15 Hyd fluid too as it must have been very embarrassing when he went to close the bomb doors and the two guys underneath started pushing them shut… You could tell the fluid was low without checking the res as before start up the bomb doors had been left open from the 1st demo and had sagged… The ex Vulcan pilot who was standing with me and had flown that vulcan many times picked up on the same thing too before the run… Not a dig just pointing out in the interest of the Aircraft.

So far there’s one less cockpit booked in this year than there was at the same time in 2014; so I don’t think that NAM will be calling it a day just yet.

As you rightly note there’re no new ones listed so far but I have forwarded details over to WOS of a couple of potential new attendees and it would be nice if they decided to attend.

I suspect that the wider appeal of cockpits at other events may be having an impact, but that’s understandable. Only this week I forwarded an appeal on for a youth event in Leicestershire.

I’m hearing whispers of some interesting potential new developments at NAM so I guess it’s a matter of watch this space.

T/O That’s all very good to hear… After all it’s this Great event that made me go on the lookout for a Cockpit Section in the 1st place…. I plan on making a decision in the next few weeks… Like I said if not we will still help our friend with th Bucc…He’s on holiday at the moment but he plans on booking it in soon. ?
