I hope this year can attract some new Cockpits to this Great Event…. Looking at the number of Cockpits booked in so far it’s looking very poor with no new Cockpits down as yet Just hope this wonderful event has not run it’s course…. Along with my PR.7 I now part own a JP.3 Cockpit Section that would be totally new to the event…. I just can’t make up my mind if it’s worth going to all the expense of bringing it… If not I’m sure we will still attend with a friends Bucc cockpit that is now a live Cockpit.
Hi All…
This is a very informative interview with former RAF Pilot Paul McDonald & author of ‘Winged Warriors’ The Cold War From the Cockpit…. Filmed @ the museum a couple of weeks ago… By Aircrew Interview…
In a couple of days the producer will add some Extras filmed from inside the cockpit Section of Canberra PR.7 WH779, this is the aircraft he flew in to photograph the soviet carrier Kiev back in the 70’s
A Big Thanks to the museum for allowing the interview to take place.
Firstly I’d like to say a massive Thank you to all that attend Cockpit Fest & to all the Staff @ NAM for doing a Fantastic job.
My only concern is the lack of Cockpits this year to previous years… Ok the visitors numbers my be up a little but the Cockpits are Not.
Over the last few years the numbers seem to be dropping ( A lot of Cockpits out there) if this was to continue will the event survive! As it’s the Cockpits that are the main thing hence the name, Be a real shame to loose what has become the Great event it is…
Don’t know if it’s just me but it felt flat and it feels like it needs a pick me up… But like I said it my just be me, is anyone else feeling the same???
Pilot Paul McDonald, Author of Winged Warriors – The Cold War from the Cockpit…
You can meet the Author alongside WH779 over the Cockpit – Fest weekend 14th & 15th June @ Newark Air Museum… If you already have the book bring it along with you and get it signed by the Author… You can also buy it from the museum shop….
779 is featured in his book and tells the story of the first sortie flown by XIII Squadron to locate and photograph Kiev and her two escorts, a Kara Class cruiser and a Krivak Class destroyer. Kiev had entered the Mediterranean from the Atlantic following her launch in 1977. This sortie confirmed that the Forger aircraft was operational from Kiev. The sortie is described in Chapter 4 of Winged Warriors – The Cold War from the Cockpit and the book also contains some of the photographs taken during this sortie.
He’s flown Thirty sorties totalling 63 hours 35 minutes in WH779….
Just looking at the list for visiting cockpit’s to this year’s event and it seems to be a bit on the low side to previous years with less than 7 weeks to go….
