[Thanks for the info Dave. Fascinating stuff.
Should I ever go that way again (Plymouth is my home town although I haven’t been there in years) I will be sure to look for the memorial.

The same, the airfield was just North of the present A38 at the top of the hill as far as I can see.
My vehicle of choice for rapid ascents was a Mk I Cortina GT 🙂
Thanks, Martin. I never realised that there was an airfield there. It was quite a hill in the 60’s and the 2-lanes got you by the caravans. The left-hander at the top was quite something!

Bill – The Fokker registration does appear to be G-EBTS
D1566 – Possibly Haldon lay within Teignmouth council’s boundaries. The aerodrome was also referred to as Exeter/Teignmouth I believe.
Is that Haldon (hill) at the western end of the Exeter by-pass, overlooking the city, with possibly a race-track at the top. I have happy memories of ascending it on my Bonneville, oh! 50 years ago.

[QUOTE=edskarf;2039614]This scratchy old film might be of interest to some. Abouth 50 aeroplanes attended the event including 4 RAF Bristol Bulldogs (from Upavon), a Cierva Autogiro, several DH Moths, an Avian and DH6 G-EBVS.
Remarkable clip of film. Was that Fokker G-EBTS ? I could only get a bit of the registration. Also a Puss Moth.
Thanks for posting Ed

I have to ask what the “W” stands for. I was at RNAY (yard) Fleetlands at that time, late 50’s early 60’s. At that time there were 2 other aircraft yards, at Belfast and Donnibrisle. If I remember correctly Belfast maintained Sea Vixens & Venoms, DB did Gannets & Skyraiders and we did the rest. Did Almondbank service engines & components?

At the risk of stating the obvious, wouldn’t your best route be to either email the CWH directly, or contact them via their Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/CanadianWarplaneHeritageMuseum?fref=ts
Maybe Hampden was just trying to get some discussion going. I mean it is a forum isn’t it?
Looking on the airshow website, updated yesterday it looks as though nothing is coming from the CAF. However 2, T-28’s have been bumped up from the static to flying status and the RCAF are coming in force with 2 Hercs, a Hawk, Griffon etc. But the B-24 no show (tech problems) is a disappointment.

The Sabre really scattered them crows!
Nice pics, looked like a great show.

Airliners.Net has it as “G-BLPG / 16693 cn3395. its also quoted it as Austa J1-N Alpha. Does that mean that this example is a replica or hybrid rebuild.
Thanks for the info guys. I was not able to access the Auster production list site so I’m not sure what 3395 is or was. But I will follow it up.

Nice pics. I like the Auster as I’m currently writing a history of the Canadian Auster AOP.6 & T-7. The last T-7 was 16692. So can you (or anyone) tell me the identity of “693”
Thanks

Those Curtiss fighters may have been a bit dated by the time WW2 got underway but the look terrific!
Thanks for the pics, David

Actually not anymore it isn’t…that was the original intention but the project has now switched back to Mercury engines. Apparently R1535s in restorable shape are very rare, and since CWH is already operating one Mercury-powered aircraft, Lizzie C-GCWL, it made more sense to go with Mercs. (119 BR Sqn RCAF, the Hamilton Tigers, operated both the standard IVs and most if not all of the small batch of IVWs with Eastern Air Command, so the livery of the completed Boly will be the same, only the serial number being changed. The Boly is coming along very nicely at CWH, just a few miles from here.)

Thanks for the update Steve. Good to hear that they are making good progress, I’m really looking forward to this. It will be well worth the trip from Ottawa to see it fly.
I would ask you when you think it will fly, but about 100 members of this forum will jump all over me for my insensitivity — so I won’t!

Great pictures. The AN-225 looks as though it’s floating above the runway.
