I remember driving past RAF Andover a number of times in the early ’70’s and there always seemed to be a Pembroke on the airfield.

    Thanks Tangmere!

So the location would be North Weald?
Is Tom Neil the only one from that group still with us?

    Thanks

    Thank you!

I should just mention, too, that George is included in the very famous photograph by Cecil Beaton of pilots walking away from a Hurricane. That photo was reproduced in the illustrated version of the AM/MOI booklet on The Battle of Britain.

I had forgoten all about that little booklet. Just found it. What an iconic picture!
Can anyone identify the pilots and the unit. (are they all in fact from the same squadron?)

A nice change from the heavy metal. Pardon my ignorance (it’s been almost 40 years since I lived in the UK) but is this the airfield formerly known as Rearsby?
    Thanks

I was thinking Florida, probably more chance of me going there!
A UK visit by ‘441 would be great though, especially over its old haunts of RNAS St Merryn and Culdrose, a friend of mine used to play in it while it was with a Plymouth ATC unit.

335 sqn ATC at Ernesettle. She arrived just after I left the squadron (about 1958). What a beaut though! From the picture.

    Thanks Growler.
Neither the 109 or the Hurricane has been active on the Ontario airshow circuit this year.

The Spit is from the now disbanded Ed Russell collection. Anyone know what happened to the Me 109 and the Hurricane 12?

I went to most of the Old Warden events in the late 60’s to early ’70’s before moving to Canada and it was always magic. It is the only part of the UK airshow scene that I truly miss. I have been really saddened to read of the terrible season that Shuttleworth is experiencing, first with the weather cancellations and now this dreadful accident.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of the pilot.

I saw Dan Dempsey fly the Sabre at Hamilton last weekend. You guys are in for a real treat!
Happy Canada Day for Sunday. I shall be volunteering at the CASM in Ottawa on that day.

    Best Wishes

Just an update on C-FETB. I visited the RCAF museun at Trenton June 15. The 720 is still located on the active side of the base. But a concrete base is currently being prepared for it in the display area. She will be moved to the museum compound in time for “Ad Astra” day, at Trenton August 25th.

The Hudson restoration is proceding well. Lots of parts on site.

So are German, Italian and Japanese survivors.

That’s what tends to happen when you’re on the losing side.

I thought the French were on the winning side, eventually.

Interesting picture Gordy, and yes, does anyone know what happened to the Bloch? French aircraft survivors from WW2 are rare.
