Neil:
If you have access to magzine back issues Aeroplane Monthly Dec 1989 has a very detailed article on the Bombay.
Surprisingly there were only 50 made plus 100 or so similar HP Harrows, miniscule quantities by war standards, yet both types pretty much made it all through WW2 being useful all the way. It would seem that in 1939 the RAF should have had a lot more of them (and perhaps a lot less Fairey Battles)

Great workmanship. Many congratulations. Please keep the updates coming.

I believe (though would like confirmation) the wreckage displayed is from CF-SAE which crashed May 27, 1936
Paul:
I can’t answer your question regarding the basis of WDM’s Vedette, however the Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg has an almost complete reproduction, with A/S Lynx engine based on CF-MAG

CASM in Ottawa holds the remains of Vedettes G-CYVP and CYWQ

Nice pictures David. Thanks for posting.

Great work! Always good to see historic civil aircraft being taken care off. I have fond memories of flying in 748’s in Northern Canada. I believe that one or two are still flying up there. Hopefully someone will preserve one of them.

[Dug a bit deeper into this one. The Sycamore at OW was probably XG544. It was the last airworthy RAF Sycamore and its final flight was from Northolt to Higher Blagdon and the Torbay Aircraft Museum on 11 August 1972. This would have been a few days after the OW show.
There’s a good picture of it arriving at the museum in “Veteran and Vintage Aircraft” (4th revision)

I remember a Sycamore displaying at Old Warden in the 70’s- can anyone recollect the number , and where is it now, if extant?
I have a couple of poor photos of the Sycamore at Old Warden in 1972. Unfortunately I can’t read the number from either of the shots but my caption says that it was from 32 squadron Northolt and it was the penultimate flight of the last RAF Sycamore. I believe it went into the RAFM collection.

Great Pictures Tony. Thanks for posting. A real trip down ‘Memory Lane’
I was trying to ID the cars. The first one was I think a mk.V or VI Jag, the last pic an Austin A90 Atlantic?

I am currently researching all aspects of this former aerodrome from the opening throughout to its permanent closure in the early 90,s for a website and maybe future publication.
I am trying to collect recollections, photographs of the airfield and buildings as well as all the different aircraft that was stationed there.
I have managed to collect several wartime pctures so far but would love to hear from anyone who was stationed at any time there to help me with all kinds of details ,stories, pictures or anything Binbrook related which might help me through this long search.
Any help in any way is extremely gratefull.
Hi Binbrook 74
Yes its an old thread but maybe you are still looking for Binbrook stories.
I did ‘Summer Camp’ with the Royal Observer Corps at Binbrook in the years 1960 & 61 when the airfield was closed for runway extension presumably for the lightnings. I think these were general camps for all ROC Groups. Unfortunately the only picture I still have is a poor B&W pic of the spitfire Gate Guardian PS915.

Thank you all for the wonderful pictures and’Updates’ from Duxford and OW. Your ‘year in review’ just posted has added much needed colour and warmth to our minus 30 temperature here in Ottawa.
Best wishes to all for 2014. May it be a vintage airshow year on both sides of the pond.
Bill
Cosford, in the Michael Beetham Centre waiting for the wings to be re-covered
Thanks Mike
She is going to Hendon I presume. Were were indeed fortunate to have her flying for a few years at OW.

Lovely photos. Brings back happy memories of OW visits in the late ’60’s early 70’s. Really loved the pics of the LVG. Where is she now?
Thanks for posting
