Dear Santa,
Please send me wood for spars, A&P streamline tube, flying wires, ASI’s, mag switches and an AS Genet Major.:)
Failing that, a money tree…:D
Excellent! 🙂
Photo credit is again from Keith Meggs’ fine tome on Australian Built Aircraft.
You have control wilkofife…
Not sure other than it is AH2040.
I’m pretty sure I saw AH2040 mentioned on the Westland Whirlwind thread…
Looks like a clue or two is in order.
This wot was designed and built in Australia and named after the place it was built.:)
There is also the MK IIA Wapiti remains here in Australia , once owned by me and passed on to a local restorer.
cheers dave
I’ve seen it recently…:D
I am also lead to believe that Widgeon VH-UHU is now under active rebuild.:)
Ok, have a go at this one…:)
Great video Jim!:)
The sound of propellers being cycled during the B24 cockpit footage was a little disconcerting though…:o
Thanks for taking the time to post and I look forward to seeing more.:)
Is it the Timm Aircoach, aka the Golden Shell Special and the driver is Roscoe Turner?
I believe transporting the Mosquito to the USA is proving problematic. The wings, for example, have to be stripped of the engines, engine mounts, undercarriage, radiators and any other weighty components to maintain structural integrity when removed from the fuselage. There is also a procedure for bracing the fuselage once the wing is removed.
Expensive toys…
Unfortunately, whilst there are plenty of people interested in old aeroplanes, there are exceptionally few with the financial wherewithal to spend vast sums of money on them; even less in this current economic climate.
One also has to remember that the initial purchase price is only part of the equation. My former accountant told me, refering to boats (but also quite applicable to aeroplanes), that as a rough rule of thumb, 10% of the purchase price will spent on just being able to have one’s pride and joy parked at the marina (or hangar) in a serviceable condition. Do the sums…
I believe the TFC P-40M will be flying shortly too….;)
Doh!:o
^^:D
Made my day…
The P-40 looks good, although that scheme has been done before. I personally would go fo a 49th FG scheme, if I won the lotto, although a lot of them are a little un-PC these days…:D
The Mk IX from Russia is in remarkable condition, considering what it has been through and it looks like quite a bit of original structure can/will be incorporated into the rebuild. Definitely more than a “data plate special”…:)
A-36/P-51A Mustang engine mount with an early F Series Allison, going by the distributors on the end of the cylinder banks. IIRC, these particular distributors were used with the gun sync system on the A-36.
