“924” has always had a Centaurus fitted AFIK. I didn’t realise it was out of the air for so long. For many years, it was one of the “bread and butter” aeroplanes for the Sanders family, being used for airshow work and government contracts training test pilots. It’s great to see it airborne again.
Woohoo! DB605 Reno Race conversion! 😀
Only kidding…
Nice engine rollover stand; could use a lick of paint though….
Looks like fun! A terrible shame that there doesn’t appear to be any airworthy Li-2’s left in Russia. Would’ve been nice to have the Il-2 there also…
Another terrific thread DCW! I love the detail shots.
Thanks for posting.:)
The “Oxford” at Wigram will be static only and it was a Consul….:(
It’s rather sad more Ansons and Oxfords have not survived in airworthy form, especially here in Oz, as they had quite an important, but largely forgotten role. The Ansons not only as trainers, but for extensive shipping/anti sub surveillance around the south-eastern corner of Australia.
Fantastic! Congratulations and well done to Bill and the team!:)
No, – I think that you’ll find this specific wartime military-version was fitted to Oxfords and the like. I was amazed to discover that this version was made right through the war up to 1945 at least. The black paint is one give-away. The MkIII was made by Sestrel as well as Huson.
According to the Civil Aviation records for my Mk III Avian, a Husun Mk IIIa was fitted to it after arrival in Australia, at the behest of the Civil Aviation Directorate. It appears that there wasn’t a compass fitted at all ex-factory.
The word LUMINOUS on the front of the box probably explains that. It would never get out of the country.
Haven’t had trouble with this issue before…
Arrgh! That was the one on evilbay. The SOB vendor refused to allow O/S bidders. 😡
Yes, fitted to the Avian.
Yep, Wirraway forward fuselage frame and an Aussie Hawker Demon. On the extreme left of the photo is the forward portion of the Wirraway rear fuselage, upside down. The gentleman on the right with the beard is Jack Macdonald, former owner of CAC Mustang VH-FCB, which saw its demise at Duxford last year as the former G-HAEC.
Yep. Really authentic…
Very, very sad news indeed. 🙁
My condolences to his family, friends and all who put in so much time and effort at the Shuttleworth Collection.
Looks like an Il-2 and possibly a Yak-1 to me…
Nice. Wish my fishing expeditions were that good!:)
I hope these two go to good homes.
Yes, I had emailed them about the Cirrus. I have enough bits here to rebuild it. 😀
Unfortunately, I haven’t had a reply, no doubt due to the large response to their ad.
G’Day Deric,
Thanks for dropping a line. I have spoken to Lang Kidby and unfortunately for me, all the paperwork, etc he had on the Avian went to the USA with the aeroplane. I have also spoken to Greg Herrick and whilst very helpful, it appears that all the drawings he had, have gone “MIA” at some stage. Not to worry; I have more than one avenue to chase for what I need.;)
Best regards,
Paul
