Propeller pitch change motor and gearbox for a Curtiss Electric Propeller. In Australia, mainly fitted to P-40s and Beauforts.
Ein großes Dankeschön an Matthias und allen anderen, die zu diesem großen Faden durch das Jahr beigetragen haben. Ich wünsche Ihnen und allen unseren Freunden bei Meier Motors den besten für das neue Jahr 2016 . 🙂
^^ I’m hoping Google translate hasn’t embarrassed me too much! 😀
This is what I wrote:
A big thank you to Matthias and all the others who have contributed to this great thread throughout the year . I wish you and all our friends at Meier Motors the best for the New Year 2016. 🙂
Try this Fleet16b. Not cheap, but high quality! 🙂
A beautifully restored example of a Ryan, until I read this…
It was bought by an owner in Arizona who wanted an STA, so he had it remanufactured (at great expense) a few years back to STA spec with internal longerons and small cockpit cutouts.
Noooo!!!!!
A quick search and I find out that this aeroplane was delivered to the NEIAF as S-37 and was then transferred to the RAAF as A50-1. So, another historic aeroplane loses its identity… 🙁
^^ A bit like painting shark mouths on Pacific combat veteran P-40s…
I think you will find that this engine is quite a hybrid, like the Spitfire it was fitted to. IIRC, it has a Merlin III bottom end, possibly a Merlin 102 supercharger and wheel case, later type two piece cylinder banks, and by the looks of it, possibly no crankshaft. Ignore the BS story on the presentation plate.
Caveat emptor….
It has flown! Well done to all involved!

Looks like a trim wheel out of a Yak, but it’s not.
Possibly Piston, but Item 3/4 is definitely off a Rolls Royce Dart engine of some sort.
Fantastic AEROFOIL! I love the comment about “twenty year old vintage biplane”; that would be barely ‘run in’ these days. 🙂
It’s good to see you here Air Ministry! 🙂
G’Day Steve,
“Air Ministry” used to be a forum member. He hasn’t posted for a while and I haven’t been able to find his contact details.
You may be better off looking for the complete assemblies. John Gaertner at Blue Swallow Aircraft http://www.blueswallowaircraft.com/ and Neil Davidson at Davidson Aeroworks make them.
Best regards,
Paul
I have been following this and other projects for a while at Craft Lab.
Koloman Mayrhofer and his team do such beautiful work!
Congratulations to Jerry Yagen and the MeierMotors team, BTW, for getting another DB605 engined Buchon/Bf109 airborne. I love the sound of the DB engines!:applause:
Anyone know if there is a Junkers Jumo running anywhere?
The last Jumo engine running that I am aware of is in the former Champlin FW190D13. Video below from 1990, from about 5:20 onwards.
