Did anyone get a shot of the two Spitfires in formation? They were last on after the Reds due to delays in the programme.
You cant turn a blind eye to not having the legal amount of insurance. You might not like it BUT if anything went wrong (God forbid) then the lawyers would have a field day and the insurance company(s) will try to wriggle away. The Operators, if they are flying Pink Lady without the new cover requirements are out on a limb. Anyone suffering a loss will go after them and as we all know how wise the Authorities are after the event so they will be climbing on the bandwaggon and before you know where you are the good old EU will bring in a knee jerk ruling banning all WW2 aircraft from flying.
I cant believe that they havent some “arangement” re the insurance, in this day and age its a case of sueprosecute everyone and evetually you’ll find a victim.
If they have found a way of moving forward then great and lets hope the Sally B can follow suit. The Catalina boys struck lucky with a revaluation of there all up weight so maybe that might be a way forward (with the CAA’s assistance – dont know just surmising) – Im sure Elle is checking all ways forward.
“spoof picture alert”
sniperUK, any shots of the 2 Spitfires (especially in formation)?
I saw the clips – quiete spectacular.
Looked like fighter to fighter combat at height with one side endevouring to turn in behind the others. With it being ammatuer and wobbly it did look all the more real – as in its happening here and now rather than the proffesionals with their stands and steady camara. Lovely but deadly blue skies and swirling white contails, some singles and others in pairs and groups.
Did you catch the bit with the Spitfire comming down, it looked like it broke up close to the ground however it was difficult to catch as the camara was wobbling around trying to keep the aircraft in view.
The pilot looks like Rod Dean?
Should be a good weekend if the weather holds, two 2 seat Spitfires, Peter Ts P51 , Black Hurricane AND the BBMF – also jet things, Red Sparrows wirrlygig watsits and Utt Butts. Hope the crowds turn out to make it worthwhile.
You sure it was John Webb?
Any ideas as to why 161 was going to Belguim?
As I said in an earlier thread another aircraft under threat will be the Blenheim – long or short nosed the costs will rise significantly especially as the “no-claims” bonus disapered following the crunch at Duxford.
Unless exemptions are made there is no way that Vulcan will fly – imagine the weight category that will be in. Its time the CAA started batting for us instead of touching there forlock at these “all encompassing” EU dictates.

Im with janie on this. I was an early departure in a similar aircraft to that used by janie, the cross wind was given as some 10knots 220deg and 18 was the suggested runway by the chap on the RT. This, like Janie is comfortably within mine and the aircrafts limits. I was asked if I would like to go from the Bravo hold (just over halfway down 18), again no problem. I went off on 1st stage of flap, climbing away I turned right (as 18 was operating on RH circuits), whilst turning right (well within the aircrafts limits) I moved into wind which was noticably stonger than at ground level, this additional airflow gave a very definate additional lift so to an observer on the ground this may give the impression that zoom climbing turns were being executed.
Can’t comment on what went on after I left.
An additional point that Id like to make is that to take off on 26 from where we were parked would of meant some very cleaver organising as to get to the threshold of 26 would of meant either a very long taxi plus crossing the 08 end or stacking up on 36 and back tracking 26 to turn and then take off. I would not of been comfortable with going on 26 from the intersection with 1836. Im sure if people were not comfortable or out of limits with the cross wind they would have made the effort to go from 26.
Anybody calculated where the Blenheim might fall into the new rates? What a disaster it would be if after all ARC’s efforts to rebuild her it becomes uneconomic to insure. 🙁 😡
I spoke to Mike V about this some weeks ago, its not all doom but there is a long way to go on this, I fear that there may be some (expensive) compromise made. I feel that to base such a draconion decision on one engine (The Stampes) that I heard might of had a possibly suspect history could of been a little bit of an over reaction. I believe that the CAA werent to happy that the AAIB made such a direct statement in the report as it then forced the CAA to “take an intrest” in Gipsy engines.
We’ll have to see what happens following the next meeting.
Another point re Gipsy engines – any of you people tried getting things like pistons for one recently – how about the oil ring mod rings? Unless there is some latitude given soon re production of “new” bits we’ll all be on the ground come engine rebuild time.
How long was the Hurri at ARC having the ‘major’ – anyone know?
The T9 Finger Four Formation sounds good to me especially as Duxford have turned there nose up at it – however the question of funding does come to mind.
There maybe a fifth T9 around but at the moment that is still a while off.
Meanwhile I just hope that the CAA’s “plans” for (substantial) increased costs for airshows are reconsidered as they stand a fair chance, along with Insurance costs of wiping out such shows as this one.
