For me its Dave Allen,Bob Monkhouse,Jasper Carrott and more recently Jack Dee and Lee Evans away from standup Ronnie Barker as Arkwright was genius “ggggranville fetch your cloth”
Thats why i have always wondered why the Shuttleworth ground crews wear white overalls! Whereas with the amount of oil our An2 chucks out we wear black.
I joined 1474 (Wickford) Squadron in 1976 and have fond memories of winning the Wing aircraft rec competition, being selected for the Wing football team,Annual camps at Coningsby (Phantoms on the flightline)Manston (Wessex sar)and Chipmunk aerobatics also gliding at Debden (T21) and who can forget the smell of cordite and the kick of the 303 rifle when shooting for your marksman badge! Thanks ATC and happy anniversary.
WJ244-attached pic of a programme to bring back memories of the Rayleigh Rockets. To get back on the thread track does anyone else remember that Ormond Haydon-Bailey had his Black Night T33 at Southend for a while cant remember the dates though.

From the amount of times I saw Stan and David with a camera in their hands I think you have your work cut out but it is great to know that the collection has survived and will continue to be preserved.
If Bill Gent’s photo collection is also tucked away somewhere then I would think that the two collections together would probably be the most comprehensive coverage of the birth and death of an aviation museum that you are ever likely to find.
With hindsight I wish I had owned a camera then but as a teenager cameras were one of those things that financially seemed out of reach. If I had taken my parents preferred route and got a weekend job in a supermarket I could probably have afforded the camera but I wouldn’t have had all the enjoyment and knowledge that I gained from spending the weekends at the museum and local speedway track. I think in many ways I made the right choice.
Would that have been Rayleigh speedway now the weir underpass? On the subject of Bill Gent my father loaned the museum an 1155 radio set from a Lanc which was still working at the time i wonder where that is now?
158 Squadrons most famous aircraft.
As if the An2 doesnt already have enough drag!
From baby baby biplane back to biggest single engined biplane and smallest twin!
“Kilo Fox” trailing behind her baby biplanes!
Another polish link our An2 built in Poland, registered in Hungary, designed in Russia but now flown by us brits take it from there guys!
Good luck with the appeal a fine body of men (and women) see you at the shows!
After seeing this thread late Friday night I ordered a set of the Memphis Belle decals.
Arrived this morning at 10:30ish and wow what a decal set. Nice graphics of a fantastic subject matter.
As a thought what about some decals of the other B-17’s, the Buchons, Mustangs and then also the B-25 & Avenger camera ships ?
I also agree completely about BoB Film, Catch 22 & Hanover Street subjects.
How about a complete history of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight ?
Regards
Thanks for the kind words and your
Suggestions, watch this space!
Battle of Britain film Spitfires and Hurricanes would be a nice touch, too….
Ok will also mention those, anyone that has suggestions for decals feel free to let me know and detail of scale required etc and i will forward them on to see if they can be sorted, cheers guys
At one point the B-25s from the “Catch-22” and “Hanover Street” movies ought to be printed as well. A lot of photos of the nose-art from both films are available on the net.

I will put the suggestion forward you could also contact Nigel via his website with the idea.
The company is run by a friend of mine and i can assure you that the decals that Nigel produces are top quality.Look out soon for the release of decals for Pete Teichmans Hanger 11 collection and many other current warbirds.
