With all the expense of the recent engine changes over the past few years i guess Elly has not given it any thought but at least she is airworthy again.
Thats right Ray was working on it with Clive Edwards who used to look after the C47 N47FK “Fifi Kate”which i used to crew until she returned to the States.Would love to know the current status/location of the Casa.
The last i knew of the Casa was when i saw the nose section being restored by Aces High whilst they were at North Weald during the 90’s.I believe it was then moved to Suffolk, rumour has it that an associate of Microsoft’s Bill Gates purchased it.
I remember various trips in the late 70’s with 5aef Cambridge including the Husky also Chippie Air Experience from Manston and Coningsby.I always chuckle when i recall that when your Irvin Chute was on correctly you wadelled out to the aircraft like something from Planet Of The Apes!
.The Rothmans Southend Museum display was 1972.I remember seeing the Heinkel/Casa 111 flying then before going to the museum. That dates me!
Sorry AN2 – I glanced back to check and saw your header just above rich’s posting… ‘more haste less speed!’
I wonder if you might be interested in this thread from RCGroups… as if you wouldn’t!… the guy seems to be undertaking a very ambitious build – but seems well equipped to do it (so far).
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1356346[/QUOTE Thanks for the link yes indeed an ambitious project i will watch with interest
Okay, Christmas is over (which is more than can be said for the turkey!) and we’re all back to our workshops… so what’s in building?
We’re looking forward to seeing a larger (and less porky) Shackleton from AN2grahame… what else is coming on?Here’s mine – so far as it’s got… ‘Can y’see what it is yet?’
(Without reference to G-INFO!)
Actually I have just started on one wing – while I get my head round how I’m going to get round the undercarriage – might have to call in assistance…
The Shackleton is not me however i am looking at the Flying Styro An2 which of course will be finished in our house colours as HA-MKF.
Getting on the crew bus with our suitcases at the Lowestoft Air Festival Andy Offer of the Blades quipped “I see the size of the aircrew luggage matches the size of your aircraft!”
Piece of cake was 1988 and normally water based paint is used so 89 if indeed the spits were wearing that livery.
By the power of deduction i have sussed it guys! The Corsair was Lynsey Waltons note the Ted White memorial teddy bear on the fin,the Sunderland has been mentioned as appearing, she also flew formation with Catalina “Killer Cat” during this season at The Great Warbirds Display at West Malling (run by Elly Sallingboe) before departing for Kermit Weeks in the states it was 1989.
You are correct – it refers to John Watts, who was sadly killed in a RAF flying acccident.
Yes indeed John Watts founded Plane Sailing along with Arthur Gibson and Paul Warren-Wilson they gave us the original Catalina “Killer Cat” John was a Tornado instructor.
Thanks for the info much appreciated.
Thanks for the update i was on “Fifi Kates” crew for 3yrs from 1999 when she was in the uk do you have any detail on the landing incident? Regards
So no one out there knows whose Spitfire it was flying over Billericay today?
PL965 has recently had the engine refitted and unless she has already been repainted pr blue but without the invasion stripes as was the plan she would have been in natural metal finish.I haven’t spoken to Pete recently but guess as over Billericay/Hanningfield area most likely was his Spit.
I agree totally with all the previous comments, had the pleasure of knowing both guys and they are sorely missed.Good article in this months Flypast showing how Sarah is keeping “The Guv’nors” legacy alive.
