I think this is sorta part of the autopilot system, and the plane automatically sets the power and stuff needed for this part of the flight. Anyone confirm?
If the aircraft has autothrottles then yes, pressing the TOGA button will set both the thrust and flight director for the go around. Without autothrottles, pressing the TOGA button will only set the flight director to takeoff/go-around mode which requires the pilot to advance the throttles.
Also in both cases if the autopilot isn’t engaged then the pilot will hand fly the aircraft to the proper pitch attitude displayed by the flight director. I hope I clarified that for you. 🙂

The Heron Frontier is a 319, not a 318… (count the windows)
Good catch Bhoy, it’s a pretty obvious difference but I still glanced over it. 😀

IAH, cool. I had no idea PSP had direct service to there. I’m assuming you’re based in Houston?
I’m Cleveland based but we have enough thru-flights that pilots fly the whole system. It allows for a real nice variety.

I have an answer for you. That pplane replaced, IIRC, a Convair 340 or some old twin prop like that. This plane is used by Hydroquebec to ferry the workers to remote sites. Seeing the scale of Canada, it isn’t luxury.
I think the Dash8 is 1 year old now (it appeared in Air International)
Interesting, thanks for the insight frankvw.

The usual exceedingly high standard. Great stuff.
Thanks, I try. 🙂
I looked at my enlarged picture and it shows the name being Hydro Quebec. I did a search and came up with this:
That doesn’t seem to answer the question though. A corporate aircraft? Then why was it at a terminal gate? Beats me.

Where do UA fly there 777’s from DEN to?
I’m sure someone here can give you that answer better than I. The only destination I’m sure of is Chicago O’Hare as I took that flight a few years ago. My one and only flight on a 777.
With the announced cancellation of the 757 line are there any previous 753 orders looking for a new home?

Is DEN as far west as you get? Get some more pics of Montreal next time you’re up there. I always enjoy the variety of YUL.
We do southern CA (Bakersfield and Palm Springs) as well as some in between through the southwest. As for Montreal, I was suppose to go there and Halifax a few times this month but had the trip “bought” from me to be used for training a new FO. It looks like I’ll be left with more southerly flying for a while.
wannabe, you can say that again. We went from sever clear in DEN to shooting 3 CAT II approaches in the next 2 days. Pilots do get a lot of variety at times. 🙂
Last one:
This American MD-80 is holding short of runway 19 at DCA with the Washington Monument visible beyond. The previous night we did the river visual approach to 19 which follows the Potomic River down to the runway. The view is amazing as you pass monuments and buildings well below 1000′ and make the final turn towards the runway at 100-200 feet. It was night so I don’t have any pictures to share (plus I was flying). Stuff like that make the bad days worth it.
This 717 is sitting in the holding pad for runway 19 at Washington-National (DCA).
These last few aren’t from DEN as you can tell by the weather.
This Dash 8 Q400 was taken in Montreal. This was the first “new” Dash 8 I’d seen. Man is it long.
That A318 left and another one replaced it. The heron tail isn’t as nice as the previous elk though…
I absolutely love the new Frontier livery. Not only does the large FRONTIER down the side look sharp but the animal tails are very cool.
Can this airplane get any shorter?
This would have looked better with a better zoom but this is obviously a 777. You can see a 777 in the new livery to the left. It never moved so I didn’t get couldn’t get a close up picture of it.
