As Bhoy stated it’s based on compass or magnetic heading. That means that even though a runway might be facing West to East the number might be 25 (250 degrees) not 27 (270 degrees) due to the variation to the magnetic poles.
Sometimes runways numbers don’t match up with their magnetic heading but that is usually only found at airports with numerous runways. In some cases with 4 parallel runways they’ll name 1 pair 27 L/R and the other pair 26 L/R even though all 4 runways have the same magnetic heading. In other cases a runway will have been numbered decades ago but due to the shift in the magnetic poles the runway’s magnetic heading will no longer corrispond to the runway number.
I’m sure there are other examples but it’s a safe assumption that a runway’s magnetic heading will be directly related to it’s number but not always. Our airport had it’s runways renumbered 2 years ago which suprised everyone as they came in to land that morning? 🙂

Condition levers control fuel, Propellor levers control prop pitch. Usually there are 3 settings with the condition lever; Off, low idle and high idle. Off obviously shuts off the fuel. Low idle is used turn 99% of aircraft operations. High Idle is used for engine starts and some ground operations that require a faster turbine speed. But it would be no different than running the throttles up a bit as it only adjusts the minimum idle speed so it is rarely used. Moving them to High Idle in flight would have minimal, if no effect on airspeed with the throttles to idle.
The propellor levers control pitch of the props. Full forward gives you min. pitch while bringing the levers back increases the pitch until they go into full feather. In flight pushing the props forward greatly increases your drag and allows for some very steep decents.
Some new aircraft models do away with the condition levers and use other means to which introduce fuel and shut it off. Another feature is the elimination of the propellor levers and incorporate them into the throttle and have them automatically adjust according to their position. I believe that the Do328 also has this type of system.

The nautical and statute mile are the same length no matter how fast you’re going. 🙂 Now if you’re referring to Indicated Airspeed (or Equivilant Airspeed) than you’re opening up a whole other can of worms. 😉
1.15 is the rough conversion factor to mph. So just add 15% to the GS.
628 knots
10% = 62
half of that (5%) = 31
add those together = 93
add that to the GS = 721 mph

Now that CRM has been in place for about 20 years we’re starting to see a backlash from it. It’s initial purpose was to tear down the walls between crew members and open up communications. Now crew members are more than likely to overstep their bounds and are starting to create another set of problems. We joked in our recurrent training that they’ll have to start putting us all through reverse-CRM training. We laughed but the trainers didn’t laugh as hard.

Just curious what program you use for this? I’ve seen a few advertised in some Biz Jet magazines before. How many different aircraft types does it come with? and I assume the data base can be updated.
What equipment could they possibily been taking a picture of that isn’t a 3 generation old castoff from some other country? Plus, as long as they were standing on public grounds how can it be a crime? If the government plans on flying their military equipment over me and my buddies as we stand on a nearby road that isn’t my fault, is it?

A HUD is an option on the ERJ. We don’t have them and as far as I know no other US carriers do. I believe that only European operators have opted to get them.
