Family Guy
Family Guy is back with a new season now. I guess after the success of the DVD sales someone decided to pick the show back up and produce new episodes.
First, I’ve watched the orginal “The Office” and really enjoyed it. I agree that the US has a habit of redoing UK shows for the US market but the big reason for this is not all comedy transfers across the pond very well. There are some parts of “The Office” that are beyond the US realm of knowledge, like references to towns and the people that live there. Don’t you think the US would find it funnier if such references were made about US towns? Pop culture references don’t do well here so shows are usually redone to fit our culture. Shows like Fawlty Towers are a bit light on the cultural references and do well here without being redone.
The ATA 753 was operating its final scheduled flight out of SEA.
Soon to be seen in Continental colors.
Great pictures BTW.

Whiskey Delta: If you get to hear what caused the problem, please do add it here.
A friends wife works in the FAA and so far he hasn’t seen a preliminary report on this but I’ll post anything that turns up. Most folks are thinking that they had some sort of power failure, either full or partial. I’m not real familiar with the terrain in that area to know what kind of options a pilot would have in such an emergency.
Indeed.
I think I heard AA will eventually phase out their A300’s, in which case they would be an all U.S. fleet, as well. Any truth to this?
I haven’t heard that yet but it wouldn’t suprise me. They just finished up phasing out the F100’s and it would make sense to eliminate the A300’s as well. One less fleet type would lower their costs in these tough times. I’m sure they wouldn’t have trouble finding a buyer with FedEx gobbling up aircraft.

Not to many US carriers only operate US manufactured aircraft. Continental is pure Boeing now that they’ve retired their MD-80’s. They went all US back in the 1980’s when they ditched their A300’s which I believe the aquired from Eastern. Obviously the old CEO, Gordon Bethune, who had come from Boeing had some personal interest in being an all Boeing fleet. I guess if you want to get picky, Continental isn’t all Boeing as they own the leases to our 249 EMB-135/145 jets, they just don’t operate them since we’ve become a seperate company.
Southwest Airlines is pure Boeing and Delta has an all US manufactured fleet since they ditched their A310’s about 10 years ago. Delta is very heavy on the MD side though with their huge MD-80 fleet. Alaskan is also all US but also have a number of MD-80’s.

whiskey Delta,
Your right, I’m not a DC-9 driver, but I assure all of you, when the jet is on the ground one of the hydraulic systems are shut off so the corresponding elevator droops until the system is pressurized.
TTP
Thanks TTP, that sounds about right. I could have sworn that I watched a drooping elevator align itself soon before takeoff and I assumed that a before takeoff procedure had activated a system that caused that. I’ve only spent 1 flight on a MD-80 jumpseat and never thought to ask the question at the time.
