What’s the CIS?
It looks like a cross between the Global Express and the ERJ.

The range seems pretty low on those. After factoring in required fuel for real world alternates and weather planning the basic RRJ would be looking at a little over 1300 nm useful range. That isn’t that much for the size.

As one person on that thread said, it sounds like a pipe dream.
So they plan on raising a bunch of money, buying US Airways and then attempting to do what the last few CEO’s have been doing for the last 4 years, fix all the internal problems? I think a better investment of their money would be to invest it into their own retirement rather than attempt to buy an airline.
Remember all the United employees pushed for and got an employee stock ownership program that included a seat on the board of directors. Then after 9/11 when the stock prices dropped about 95% the program ended up costing them just about everything they had put into it. Not a wise move in hindsight.

Unlikely as Southwest don’t interline with anyone (I think)
Correct.

Yes, PIT is still a focus city with about 70 flights a day which is about 5-6 flight an hour. Southwest did move into PHL in March (I believe) with about 30-40 flights a day. That has really taken the edge off the US Airways domestic capability which leaves them with only the international.

No major hub competition doesn’t mean success. The Philly airport is a nightmare even on good days. They are sandwich between the NYC and Washington DC traffic which greatly impacts all arrivals and departures out of PHL. US didn’t have any direct competition out of Pittsburgh and they basically closed down that operation in the last 2 years.
US Airways troubles aren’t coming directly from competition, they are bleeding money due to a lot of internal issues.
