TTP. Are there any bases for the C-17 other than Charleston? Also, do all the C-17’s have a stick for the left seat and yoke for the right? A few years ago I got up in the cockpit of one and spent some time talking with the crew. If I remember correctly the stick was implimented as it required less physical movement by the pilot which was helped with use of the HUD. Is that correct? I didn’t think at the time to ask whether that was a standard setup.
I’m still in the bahamas!
Quite a bit of luck with the path of Ivan. 🙂 Glad your holiday plans weren’t spoiled.
Outstanding article, thanks for pointing me towards it. 🙂
Thanks Ben. Those folks at Airpower Unlimited did and outstanding job, they should be proud. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Gary Koh will bring out his aircraft in the future. It did fly during this summers event. 🙁
edit: Wow, I just looked at the Airpower Unlimited website. Those folks have done some outstanding restorations. It seems that they have a knack for the FG-1 as they have 4 restorations on their resume as well as 1 F4U.
Don’t mean to butt in to your European Corsair discussion but I was wondering if any of you would know something about this Corsair. This particular FG-1 was the star of the annual airshow at the Akron-Fulton airport which is the location of the old Goodyear Corsair factory (quite a home coming 🙂 ). Talking to one of the volunteers there I was told that this FG-1 was recently restored to it’s immaculate condition under the financing of her private owner. This appearance was it’s first public appearance since being competed and was going to be flown home never to be seen as the owner doesn’t plan to participate in any other airshows.
Does anyone know the history of this particular aircraft (I don’t have the serial # sorry) and will we never see her again?
Here’s his other picture of the same aircraft. Not the prettiest looking, that’s for sure.
USAirways has set up a website to answer questions about this new round of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
Flying regional jets on mainline/medium haul routes and offering nothing more than a beverage service. No wonder no one wants to fly them.
RJ’s are not the reason for their troubles. US was very late with implimenting RJ’s across their route structure, much later than their competition. They actually kept RJ’s from their 4 wholy-owned regional carriers until last year. While the rest of us were jetting around in ERJ/CRJ’s, US was providing service in Dash 8’s and Do328’s. Rather then jump on the RJ boom with everyone else, US got caught up in a fight to only allow their own company fly them for 10% less. Well that fight cost them years which is why their first CRJ flight by a wholly-owned regional (PSA) was this year. The rest of the industry has been flying RJ’s since 1995.
US did farm out some of their routes to outside carriers who flew RJ’s (Chautauqua and Mesa) but not for a majority of their short haul flying as they still had 100 turboprops in their system. Actually some of the flying Mesa Airlines picked up was with the B1900D.
US is now scrambling to catch up to the rest of the airlines. They’ve finally started to reap the benefits of small jets but it’s too little too late. To intensify their $$ return we’re seeing them slash their workers salary by 1/3rd or more every year. Now they have mainline pilots flying those EMB-170’s for less then most pilots are paid to fly an EMB-145 at competing regional carrier.
What kind of aircraft is that 4 engine turboprop?
Delta: Don’t Ever Land There Again
Hopefully a day that is never repeated.
Here are some recent pictures of the Pentagon as well as Ground Zero as it is seen now.
Nice pictures. You’re not kidding, the weather did deteriorate. 🙂
Brian Scott?
Do you have more details about their cut plans on hubs and fleet?
I haven’t had a chance to read much of the details but from what I’ve seen so far DFW will no longer be considered a hub as they go from 245 to 21 daily flights. As for fleet types the only note have seen regarding that is they’ll be eliminating 4 fleet types but no mention of what they will be. There will also be a shift of flying to their Song LCC operation.
Anyone care to guess what the 4 fleet types will be? For sure that will include the MD-11’s and 732’s.
No, we don’t. All such actions are handled between the union and the company. In most cases the Union is able to protect a workers jobs unless there was some large violation.
